I got my Model 1 Sega Saturn modchipped recently so naturally I'm playing some of the more rarer of the systems titles like Shining Force 3 and Panzer Dragoon Saga so after about an hour or so of playing I turn off the console but sometimes I turn it back on a minute or so after wards sometimes to copy saves onto the Action Replay and the screen has the horizontal white lines and can't read a disc, this goes away after 10-15 minutes but even today I was playing Burning Rangers the system just upped and rested on me during gameplay.

I've looked online and people are saying its a fault with M1 PSUs overheating, I have the console in a place where the vents are free I even bought I mini Notebook Cooling Fan and turned it on at the vents next to the PSU and still no improvement. Played it for a while. Reset. White Horizontal Lines.

So the big question I'm asking, how serious is this and how much time does my Saturn have left

I'm in Australia so i'm using 240V, what I have at my current disposal is a broken Dreamcast with a functional 120v PSU and it's tiny fan.

But is this something that would require opening the Saturn and buying and replacing a capacitor in the PSU

You can't swap Saturn and DC PSUs to my knowledge.

Won't hurt to replace the caps but it could be a number of things wrong. With the DC the pins would shift and it'd reset when they'd shift enough to remove power. Possible the same thing is happening here. Are you running the Saturn with the AR in 24/7?

it doesent sound like PSU to me it sounds like somethine else is getting hot, could be what evers doing the video rendering or processing for output.
its possible its caps but it doesent seem that way to me either.

things like this happen over time, electronics get old create resistance and while they still work they will get hotter and hotter untill problems arise.
usually you see this in very old components that are crammed together like computers or hifi equipment, although still a possibility for consoles.

crack it open, see how dusty crusty it is inside, clean it out, leave the lid off if possible, (tape the lid button down) and see what happens.
if it happens again see how hot the main chips are on the thing and if any of them are super hot.
if it is a heat problem and judging from the age of the system we are probably looking for arround 50C+ probably on a CPU or render chipset.

So could it just be the AV Cable?

at this point any thing is possible but to me it sounds like when i overclock my computer too high and artifacts because its too hot.
have had it happen with other things aswell

Its the psu bad caps and can be a bad transistor i fixed a Saturn that would switch its self off after a few secs.
A picture of the psu and be carefully handling these i have had a shock of these beasts of psu's.

After playing a while it gets a bit warm on the PSU side
