The PlayStation 4 is "region free," according to Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida. At Monday's E3 conference, Sony announced its new console will launch at $399 (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/10/ps4-launches-399/), and comes with "no restrictions" (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/10/playstation-4-has-no-restrictions-on-used-games-no-always-on/) on used games. Afterwards, Yoshida took to Twitter (https://twitter.com/yosp/status/344357778288152576) with the extra bit of PS4 news.
It's unclear if Yoshida's statement indicates the PS4 will be region-free in the same way the PS3 is. The PS3 can play game discs no matter which geographical region they're tied to, minus the sole exception of Persona 4 Arena (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/07/05/persona-4-arena-will-be-region-locked-on-ps3/). There are region-based PlayStation Network restrictions when it comes to downloadable games on the PS3.
We've reached out to Sony to clarify the details.http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.joystiq.com/media/feedlogo.gif (http://www.joystiq.com)Yoshida: 'PS4 is region free' (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/06/11/yoshida-ps4-is-region-free/) originally appeared on Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com) on Tue, 11 Jun 2013 08:00:00 EST.
