I find gumshoe to be the most fun and advanced NES lightgun game ever made...if your lightgun works.
Due to the fact that finding a nice, working lightgun isn't all too easy, and the game gets INCREDIBLY hard later on, I'd reccomend emulating it and using your mouse, or a newer LCD lightgun if the emu supports one.

I like it well enough. It's unique, fairly fun, and one of a handful of NES zapper games, so it's definitely worth picking up.

This is the best gun game for Nintendo. Shockingly, there's no Japanese version. I haven't the slightest idea why.
I was happy with clearing the game without ever getting hit, but then I got decimated on the 2nd loop. That hard mode is... hard.

It's my favorite NES light gun game, too, though it does get really hard. I don't think I ever finished it. Good game, though.

In a word YES.
But as others have mentioned, you're going to need an OPTIMAL light gun setup. Get a good working light gun and a CRT that can handle accurate light gun shooting and you've got yourself a great NES light gun game.

...because if you don't, you'll be pissed off at every bottle you'll ever see again for the rest of your life
XD
(Anyone who played a lot of Gumshoe certainly understands this pain)

I think we've had this discussion at a NAVA or before one of the podcasts.

Well, I have a light gun on the way. I'll have to see if its worth a damn.

Yeah, there are lightguns that work with LCD TVs. Of course, none that hook into a NES, SNES, Genny, or any old console that wouldn't be commercially viable to produce for. There *might* be one for PS2 but I can guarantee you there's plenty for PCs.

Any idea how they work?

PS2 light guns for LCD TVs use IR bars on the top and bottom of the screen, typically they get really bad reviews.

NES light gun games work great on a jailbroken Wii, the software is fully coded to use the Wiimote pointer as the targeting.
If I ever get an itch to play Gumshoe, Duck Hunt, etc. these days that's where I play it.

It probably wasn't very popular. There were only a total of 6 licensed games that supported the Famicom Gun compared to something like 14 licensed and 2 unlicensed games for the NES.
(Famicom gun games are Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, Wild Gunman, Mad City/Bayou Billy, GunSight/Laser Invasion and Operation Wolf)

It's sad that there are more games that support the 3D System (glasses) than the Gun. >_>
