View Full Version : Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) Beta w/ Doki Doki Panic Sounds?

I am wondering if there was ever an early dump for our Super Mario Bros. 2, as based on Doki Doki Panic, which retains all the DDP sound FX/music (and none of the Mario-related ones)? You know, with all the Mario-related characters but none of the associated music and sound.
This is not related to the beta SMB2 ROM dump that had been recently discovered.

"Recently" ? The only beta I've heard of – the one featuring the SMB underground music – has been known for years. Is that the one you're referring to?

That's the one I'm trying to distance this very early BETA version from. Was there ever an earlier dump than the one you mention in that particular link?
It's like how Dr. Mario began life in BETA under the title Virus.

I for one have never heard of such a thing. Is there something in particular that leads you to believe it exists?
It seems the only new music added in the final version was the subspace music.

The sounds/music that wouldn't work on a cart due to missing the FDS extra sound chip (that a stock NES can't support anyways)? :P
