Have a customer returning a Sega Cd model 1 i went over, replaced the fuse and cleaned up. Before shipping it to them it was 100% working.

Well after shipping the ribbon cable came undone and was giving them issues. Also the Ribbon "weight" piece was flopping around in the system.

Does anyone know where the ribbon "weight" goes??? I put it back on the ribbon, is this where it goes? Does it hook to anything else, i cant get it to stay on the cd tray side nor the otherside. Maybe the weight goes somewhere else?

This looks like the way it would go. Is this correct>>> I shoved it back on that side snug, and it seems to be holding. However with the slightest pull it will come undone, and im afraid flop around in shipping again and pull out the cable..again. Does it serve a purpose? lol

IIRC it was glued to the lower shield. I believe I have one or two open ATM and can check later.

It's a ferrite core block, you see them on a lot of cables and stuff, they're normally added to reduce interference or for other FCC regs.

That said, I removed mine from one unit for the same reason and have never had any issues since the block itself was broken, but I recommend FABombjoy's suggestion of gluing or taping it down.

Awesome thanks guys! I wonder if its glued to the bottom, that way it wont be hanging but sitting rather?

Confirmed: first one I checked has it glued / adhered in place, right in the area of the vents. Exact positioning probably doesn't matter, but it's about one vent slot in from the left.

They are secured with double stick tape to either the bottom grounding plate or more rarely the lower motherboard grounding plate.
