Okay, so the first part of the find isn't that big a deal... but keep reading:

Today's yard sale finds:

Playstation, all connections + extra dual shock + Missle Command, Pac-Man World, Syphon Filter 2, Crash Bandicoot Warped, Driver, NFL Blitz 2000

NES: Dr Mario

Genesis: Ms PacMan, monopoly, Caesar's Palace

Total: $27.50

AND THEN THE BIG SCORE...

I dropped off some leaves at the highway recycling center for my town... went into the electronics shed (we can't throw such things away) and found a new looking 21" monitor... took it home... it works perfectly, I played Berzerk on it for an hour.

Cost: $0

I have a question about the monitor... what does it mean when a monitor, aside from the usual 5 coaxial connections for rgb-hor-vert, has a female connection like you would find on a video card?

EDIT: HOLY SHIT. Here is a url to a current sale listing:

No shit, dude... I took it expecting to have to bring it back because it was dead... but it works perfectly... it's a 21" .25dp monitor... I am so psyched... it makes no sense that it would be there at all... I just don't get it, but damn what a freakin' find in the trash... I thought it was cool last month when I found 3 vcrs there that are still good for signal modulation.

its proobably statewide, in boston at least you cannot throw away monitors and TVs anymore. you have to bring them a designated drop-off center such as goodwill, seriously. i've seen televisions spend months on the curb because the "trasher" is ignorant of this law. its good news for us gamers though, toddst and i scored massive MAME quality monitors from harvard medical schools trash pile :)

It's good news for everyone, actually. TVs and monitors have insane amounts of lead and other heavy metals in them and are super toxic. I wish they did more of this all over the place...I'm sure there are lots of technological things that would work fine with a simple fix but that people are always throwing out because they don't know how to use it.

You lucky bastard. O_O

I don't have good or bad luck when it comes to the trade of games. I can't think of a single example when I got a great bargain on something rare. :?

Well unfortunately, it also means that a lot of people take things like tvs and monitors and just dump them in the woods and such. We have to pay to dispose of them at these centers... in my town it's 7.50 to dispose of a tv or monitor. That is whether it's a 60" projection tv or a 9" black and white tv. A lot of people don't bother to pay it and just dump their crap someplace... it's terrible. People suck.

This far from manufacture, don't be surprised if those disks are trash... I've found at least half the 5.25" floppies I've come across recently are garbage now.
