Am I the only one who sees certain common games and mistakes them for far, far more valuable and rare games, or has even purchased some due to thinking they were rare? Here's a few I've had:

1. Daytona USA: Championship Circuit Edition (Saturn), without the Netlink capabilities.
2. Nintendo World Cup Soccer (NES), if you haven't seen the cover art for a certain other NES game...
3. Athletic World, the common Family Fun Fitness title for NES.
4. The European version of Sonic the Hedgehog for Master System. I've seen this one in the wild, twice.

Is the European version of Sonic really that rare? I just grabbed it on eBay for less than $10 in mint condition.

from my understanding the Euro version is not rare BUT, in the USA if can be extremely rare IF you have the original barcode sticker on the box. Other wise the USA and Euro version is exactly the same.

No. Auctions can end under 2 pounds complete on UK ebay for those not condition sensitive.

I have a hard time keeping straight which Flintstones game on NES is rare. I always have to think for a moment to remember that Rescue of Dino & Hoppy is the common one.

Black Box NES games often catch my attention even though most of them are common as hell.

Well, to be fair...

I mean, it's not like you're making a mistake thinking it's the "American version."

No, it isn't rare. It's a common game that causes me to do a double take.

Every time I see Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast) in the wild, I do a double take to check if it's the "Limited Edition" version.

Earthbound is fairly common, but each time I see a price sticker on it I do that double take, then shake my head and wonder why fanboys let it get that bad.

yea i dont understand why eathbound is so much, regretting not getting it for $5 new when SNES was at the end of its life cycle. i guess i shouldnt complain because i got the rest of the megaman series for under $5 new except 5 on NES...whats x3 worth now?

any way i always double take SMB3 on NES for yellow label Metroid....its a dumb one

Yellow Metroid worth something?
A few years ago, I got it along with another game, I think Baseball, for under $10 shipped.

It's kinda surprising how expensive some Mega Man games have become considering how cheap those collections are, but I guess SNES nostalgia lunacy knows no bounds.

Yellow Metroid is a sad and underrated fluke. If you compare it cib or sealed against the vastly more produced silver original it goes for notably less in like for like shape. Same also can be said oh both gray Zelda's too. It confuses me as they buck the NES trend of high quality late post SNES releases that get pricey.

I am not a fan or supportive of it but I do have a sealed yellow Metroid in a shadow box. I bought it for less but not by far than what it's worth, had it checked by huge VGA users thinking it is an 85+ but I keep it because the cover art of Samus is one of my favs. Trying to value it and see a ratio of old to new is why I know about the value and oddity of its low value.

Not exactly a visual doubletake. I used to jump on copies of Maniac Mansion to see if they had the exploded hamster trick in them because I thought that there was a second US run that didn't allow you to do it. Only when I got here did I find out that had there been a second run it would have been removed but it was never produced that way. :/

I often confuse SMB3 with Werewolf: the Last Warrior, if I'm glancing through quickly at end labels. Not that either game is hard to come by or should draw my attention. :)

I would say it was because it was a re-release of an already wildly popular game, same with the Zelda titles. They weren't late-release, limited-issue ones like Panic Restaurant.

Also, I have both versions of Metroid, though only a box for the silver. It's funny, I had the yellow copy long before I ever had or played a silver label.

Oddly I had never run into the yellow before, if I had loose and forgot. It s a variant sure, but it still is a scarce copy compared kind of like a certain power pad game that blows people drop too much on. ;)

I used to do double takes on Dark Cloud also, but only because for a split second I would think they released a Zelda game on PS2.

Dragon Ball GT Final Bout, every time I see one I check to make sure it isn't the 1997 version.

Do you find yourself checking gold-colored carts on the off-chance that they might be a NWC cart instead of just Quattro Adventure?

It's been many years since I've even seen Quattro Adventure, though.
