Mods, feel free to move this topic if you wish -- not really sure of the best place to post this.

I recently got from a friend for cheap a older Playstation 1 game. The thing was heavily damaged, though, and even after treating it with my Game Doctor I can only get it to play some of the time. I have a PS2 only, no original PlayStation.

I'd like to make a CD-R copy of the game so that if and when the game goes 'kaboom' I can still play it.

I know I can't just stick the game CD into my computer and make a copy, due to the boot code found on the PSX games.

There seem to be several devices out there on the net that say they will play copied CD's, but there's so many options, I don't really know which one is best, or which online sites are reliable, or even how exactly these mod chips and what not WORK.

And do I HAVE to buy something? Seems like a waste to spend $30 or so just to make a copy of a $5 game.....

But I supose it might be nice to have the option to play imports as well in case the mood ever strikes. :-D

Thanks in advance for the help.

Use CDRWin, make a raw mode disc-to-disc copy, install a mod chip or something comparable. That's about as detailed as you can be without alerting the feds. ;-)

And you might get pretty good results with this, since a modern PC CD-ROM drive can usually read a junked up disc much more easily than an old PSX. When you write the backup, I find that slower is better. I can only get PS1 games to work fully at 1x, but you might have different results.

You're speaking Greek to me, that's why I'm asking for detailed help. :) This is not something I've ever been interested in looking into before....

What the heck is CDRWin and 'raw mode disc-to-disc' copy?

All I have to make CD copies with is Windows and Nero.

EDIT: Link removed.

Seeing as its an older game, it probably wont need to be cracked.

Well, megagames sure has an insane pile of game patches. That's about all I use it for myself.

Sorry, wether you're in your "legal" rights to make backup copies or not, we're not really supposed to be chatting about this type of thing. So I'm not going to move it, I'm just going to LOCK it.
