View Full Version : Passwords or Cheat Codes you never forgot

Early this evening I popped in my copy of Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 2 on the ol' Game Boy. Still a charming game by the way!

Anyway, as I reflected on this game that I hadn't played in over 15 years, I suddenly remembered the password that brings you to the last level in the game. GIFT. It never left my memory. Something that I hadn't thought of in so many years was suddenly retrieved as if I did it yesterday! Amazing how the human brain works.

So I'm curious, have any of you had a similar experience? What passwords or cheat codes did you memorize as a kid or when you were younger that you have never forgotten?

007-373-5963!

Also, in Motocross Championship for Sega 32X, when you reach the final set of levels (by getting the best bike) on the hardest difficulty, you get the world's greatest password:

gDAAAAAAAYM

I kid you not. "Motocross!" briefly became a sort of faux-expletive between me and my other half, kind of like my religious friend who says "Superstar!" so he won't take Jesus's name in vain.

Up, Down, Left, Right, A+Start at the title screen - level select in Sonic

IDDQD - God mode in Doom?
IDKFA - all weapons in Doom?

"Suckmyrocket" - all weapons in the original GTA.

Hmm.. I thought I would haver remembered more than that.

Of course there's the Konami Code... Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start.

I loved how they implemented this into Wreck-It Ralph!

For some reason I can remember the blood code for Mortal Kombat (ABACABB), despite the fact that I've never owned a Genesis and I hate MK.

Mortal kombat for genesis also has the "dullard" code for the debug menu which I never forgot.

I also remember most of the trick codes for kid Icarus, like Icarus fights medusa angels and 8uuuuuuuuu...

Has anyone mentioned Justin Bailey yet?

I have the God mode code for Alien Trilogy for PS1 stuck in my head. I can't remember if all the Is are 1s for this but this definitely is the phrase. Maybe.

Not sure if it qualifies as a code, but entering ZELDA as your name in TLOZ on NES allows you to start the 2nd quest.

Well, I wasn't a kid for this but...

3 hamsters -- Bangai-O

The rest have already been mentioned:

up down left right a+start -- Sonic the Hedgehog
abacabb -- Mortal Kombat
ZELDA -- Legend of Zelda

That was probably a bad choice. I've heard a few people accidentally found that secret the first time they played (of course afterwards wondering why the game is so hard). :)

Found by people who thought the character's name was Zelda instead of Link?

I'm pretty sure I always entered Link as the name when I was a kid.

That one also works in Mortal Kombat on the SegaCD. Actually it's even better there, because all the various options are actually named instead of whatever vague wording the cart version used (something like Option1, Option2, etc?). You didn't need abacabb, though, blood was unlocked all the time on SegaCD.

Definitely qualifies!

Found by people who thought the character's name was Zelda instead of Link?

I'm pretty sure I always entered Link as the name when I was a kid.

I just entered something to keep track of which slot was which game (I would have more than one going, my main game, a 2ndary "mess around" game, then the third slot I let my friend use for his game). I didn't start using Link as the name until LTTP, where they actually use what you enter for in game dialog.

Another code I remember (many of the ones I was going to say were already taken!) is ABBA to continue in Ikari Warriors NES.

I normally just used my name (I still do that), so as to indicated which save slot is mine.

I guess people didn't want to sound like they were referencing AVGN by saying it too soon.

007 Racing: Hold L1+R1, then press Triangle-O-X. Clever code only because it's on the front cover, and I never realized that was a code; I just thought it was there for show.

Justin bailey in metroid and 8u(all Us) for Kid Icarus since those aren't taken yet like the Konami and Doom pc codes.

The Magic of Scheherazade.

W1, W2, W3, W4, W5. Found these out by writing the password incorrectly. After entering it wrong three times, text stated if getting it wrong one more time you can start in that level. You start at the beginning of the level with a small amount of everything at the lowest level.

1W, 2W, 3W, 4W, 5W. Start with the best of everything that can be acquired in that specific level with only the boss left.

Press both A and B 50 times on Final Fantasy while on the ship for a mini game where you can win 100 Gold. On the GBA, PSP, and PSX version, if you beat the record you win 10,000 Gil. Easy money.

All the common codes like the Konami code and Zelda has already been listed.

I will always remember this one from Megaman 4: A1 A4 B5 E2 F1 F3. Last stage with both the special items, Wire and Baloon.

There's also the debug code for Sonic the Hedgehog (up C down C left C right start, hold A), level select for sonic 2 (19-65-9-17, already mentioned) and the subsequent code for Super Sonic mode (4-1-2-6).

Hold L1 and press Up Up Up X Square x3

Unlocked flying mode in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. I also have a nasty habit of memorizing CD keys for games I install, but I can't display that talent for obvious reasons.
