I noticed recently a number of games on Sony PSP that I would like to play, in particular the Persona remake And other Atlus games. But I'm not really sure how much PSPs are going for these days. Also apparently there are, like, three different variations? Which one is the best and What's the most I should pay for it? Thanks for the help.

I had to shop for one not too long ago.

I did not like the prices on ebay, amazon and local ads. But ebgames(canadian branch of Gamestop) were selling them in used but very good condition for 80$. So I bough mine there.

As for the models, there are 4. PSP-1000, 2000, 3000 and PSP Go. I would recommend PSP-2000 or 3000. They can both be hooked to the TV via component and the PSP-3000 has a slightly better screen. The ebgames deal was for a PSP-3000.

I've got a PSP-3000 (bought from the local Gamestop ~1 year ago for about $80 also), and several games including the Persona series. I did enjoy some of the games I played. However, I decided it's not for me. I'm actually looking to find a new home for mine (3DS has taken over my portable gaming life, and I feel that some of the ports are rather inconvenient in how they work. Short version: save points have no place in a portable game you need to be able to stop any time.). Maybe I should drop you a PM with a list of games I have and how much I'm asking for the system.

I have a PSP 2000 i got for free. some ones daughter dunked it in a glass of water a long time ago and nothing had been done with it. i charged it up and it had a button problem, the home button was like it was being stuck down. went to a local shop with the partafter taking it out and they just gave it to me, which was odd because they were generally assholes at this shop.

any way i say the 2000/3000 suggestion is the way to go. i wouldnt pay more than $60 for one though unless it was in super good shape but even then maybe $70

I'd pay $30-70 for a common color in working condition with the minimum number of accessories. The 1000 has better build quality, the 3000 has a different screen that messes with some games, the 2000/3000 have extra ram for caching. My personal preference is the 2000. Expect to pay a few hundred if you want a desirable limited edition like the Star Ocean or Final Fantasy sets.

I got a 3000 version at the end of May (2013) for $40. I got it from a pawn shop in PCB. It came with the power adapter and a couple UMD movies.

The Go is good mainly if you're modding it for emulator use or digital games. It uses the same memory sticks as the Vita for memory expansion. It has a design flaw though. You can't charge it at the same time as doing tv out because the video cable and charger use the same port. And when I got it I thought I was set for a consolized PSP with composite out (easier to record cheaply than component)... I guess it is still good enough for gaming sessions that don't last all day but still it could have been better.

Maybe I should have gotten a PSP 3000 and more memory sticks instead.

I´ve been seeing them on Craigslist for around $50, try to get the 3000.

The cradle for the PSP Go fixes the charging/component out issue. It's an extra accessory, but one that makes it a lot more effective as a consolized PSP.
