Hey all! I recently found my old gameboy micro! I'm stoked to take advanced wars with me on the go now! The only thing is, I've got just one faceplate and it's fairly scratched... anyone got any tips on buffing out the scratches? Or does anyone know where I can find a faceplate for less than like 20 bucks?

Not less than $20, but custom work done by Wiggy that many consider to be superior to the stock offerings on Micro.

At the price you want it will be hard and come down to timing and luck on eBay most likely. 30 for a single faceplate is just too much.

I've tried this and had ZERO luck with it, which is a big part of why I just started making my own ;)

I was never a fan of the Gameboy Micro, it was just too small and just didn't feel right in the hand. I felt that Nintendo got it right with the SP version of the Gameboy Advance due to the folding mechanism and the feel of the unit, that design was simply amazing and I felt that there was no need to screw with it whatsoever. The Gameboy Color felt good too seeing as how it was much thinner than the original Gameboy (which is horrible to hold now), and I really liked the design of the DSi Lite too.

You must have small hands. All of the GameBoy designs since the Pocket have been cramp city for me. I do agree that the GBA SP is the best GB design, but the buttons and D-pad aren't so hot, and the lack of a headphone jack is still inexcusable. The best portable from an ergonomic standpoint for me was the Sega Game Gear, with the chunky NEC TurboExpress not far behind. The entire DS line is also too thin to be comfortable.

Despite my complaints about ergonomics with the latter day GameBoy line, form factor is not my problem with the Micro. The Micro's screen is just far too small for these eyes. I know these machines are targeted towards children, but I don't know if I would want to overburden my kids' (if I had them) eyes with the strain of such a tiny screen. The screen on the TurboExpress was bad enough in this regard. While I like the concept for the device, in practice it simply has too many issues.

I will third the notion that the GBA SP had a wonderful design and felt great in the hands, but I grew to really like the DS Lite quite a bit too and felt it was a worthy successor to the SP. I never quite liked the look and feel of the Micro, though.

Can't stand the SP. Hand cramp city plus really hard edges = no thanks :(

SP cramped my l and r button fingers if a game used those a lot like some shooters and racers. Oddly the micro didn't and my hands aren't tiny. The screen maybe small but the clarity is unmatched and I don't mind the litTle area. Aside from no gb or gbc games, micro is best and what I use. Just wish I could find better prices on a legit faceplate.

It sucks that they're so damned hard to find in decent shape. Hell, I hoard the stupid things and I only have a couple of extra faceplates that aren't beat to snot :/

Agreed it makes little sense. I have one good quality and two that aren't so clear with issues. I guess perhaps it goes to show how uncaring and rough people are on things due to the lack of plates.

Even the original DS? I mean, it's not a monster like Lynx, Game Gear, etc, but it's a hell of a lot heftier (good for us big handed people) than the rest of the post original Game Boy portables from Nintendo. The full sized d-pad is nice, too. No other way I'd rather play GBA games.

I have the famicom edition micro. I love it as much as the rest of my gameboys. Sadly finding the famicom faceplate is near impossible. Someone payed 40 bucks for one on ebay. Oh well. I keep mine in a dice bag when i keep it in my pocket. The other day i was playing classic nes zelda on it at work and my boss walked up to see what i was doing...i put it up to my head " Hello. Yeah im at work waitin for the papers" he gave me the sorry for buggin you on the phone look. Hahaha

Genius! To me, that fake phone trick alone is a reason to own a Micro!

LOL! That is pure genius!

My friend is trying to stuff the guts of a micro into a smartphone for the same purpose (deceiving people at work), but it seems like that isn't even necessary.
