Found this on Stumble Upon earlier today. It's the same guy who wrote that article about idle gaming. Pretty ridiculous.

So, the writing is so ridiculous that you joined DP just to post about him and promote him? Twice? Sounds like self-promotion or spam to me.

Who'd do that to a can of spam?!

Stop spamming our forums, Hugh. Either promote your game directly in the thread you already created (sparingly), legitimately involve yourself with the community in a way that's not a poor attempt at viral marketing, or GTFO.

Has anybody played this game? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.PocketCake.LavaCat&hl=en
It reminds me of those classic side scrollers from back in the day.

Yeah really, isn't the same guy who was trying to "go viral" with his blog posts that were tangentially related to this game?
Here's an idea bad marketer guy, how about you give away some copies of this game of yours to well known members here and ask them to simply make a thread about their impressions. You may not get the press you want, but at least you won't come off as a total tool.

They have the same IP too! What a coincedence.
Normally we ban and delete spammers without a second thought, but I really don't think we should do that when it comes to game-related stuff that's actually relevant to our interests, smaller devs like this trying to promote their game etc. But dude.. you've made three different threads now, in two different forums, under two different accounts. You're not doing it right.
I've merged all of your threads. Please consider your game sufficiently promoted. If you make another thread about LavaCat, or a blog post you found in a dark alley about a funny story some guy thought up while he was working on LavaCat, or an epic pictographic essay about a world-spanning adventurer who escaped countless near-death situations only to meet their demise by tripping over LavaCat and falling into its volcanic glass litterbox, I will ban you. Good luck with your game.

Thanks for backing small game developers, Berserker. I shall cease my schizophrenia.
Although the comment about the game being in the tradition of classic side scrollers is true, replete with warp pipes (in the upcoming version, anyway).
And I'm not sure about this "viral guy," unless he's an identity I haven't claimed yet...

No problem. And I should clarify, if you have something like the epic pictographic essay mentioned above, feel free to post it! Just not in a different thread is the point I was trying to make.
We've had a number of smaller developers come through showing off their wares over the years. From what I've seen, the ones who have been met with the best response did a few things.
- The game they posted was relevant to our interests (they knew their audience)
- They answered any questions people might have had (they stuck around a while)
- They came in with no fanfaire/indirection (they were themselves)
When people here say "viral", what they're referring to is indirect marketing. It's just not a Thing that works with small communities, from what I've seen. People see through it immediately, and it puts them into more of a hostile disposition toward you and the thought of trying/buying your game.
If there are any forums you haven't hit yet, you might have better luck with the direct approach: "Hey, we're a small developer and we're making this game we think you might like. Here's some screenshots, here's a list of features, feel free to ask any questions." Perhaps a bit more dressed-up than that, but you get the idea.
