Hi all, been awhile but this just seems like the right place to post since I don't have any real blog or anything.

So we often have these store tournaments and over the years, the head-to-head retro competition has been fierce. In our Atari 2600 tourneys, Outlaw has moved from "just one of those games" to "THE game". Even at big shows like PAX East and E3, when two players square off in this game, there is that gaming moment - one that's rarely seen even in recent head-to-head fighters. Sweat forms. Brows furrow. Knuckles whiten.

Have you played Outlaw today? If so (or recently), what's your favorite variation of the game? My favorite is with the moving stage coach that can be broken apart in case both players are excellent players.

If you like Outlaw, you'll love the homebrew sequel - Gunfight

I own it, I really like it, but there's still something more intense, more charming about the blocky original game.

Outlaw was actually one of the first games we ever bought for the 2600 back when we first got one. Fond memories as it was a game my father and I wanted to play together because we always enjoyed "Boot Hill" in the arcade.

Interestingly I really didn't care for Outlaw all that much on the VCS until playing Boot Hill against my cousin a bunch at California Extreme a few years ago. After that it became a regular cartridge in the two player rotation.
