I got a free 32x the other day, got a model 1 to 32x cable (after market) and a new 32x AV out cable.

Video works but there is no audio.

AV out from my Genesis is fine by itself as I get video and sound.

Try reseating the 32X ribbon cables.

is it safe to play with them while the machine is on?

Have you tried the headphone jack? model 1 rear output is mono only.

headphone jack works just fine, i get audio.

But what i'm trying to figure out if that is the ONLY way the 32x works with a model 1. Do I need a special mono only cable or is it that the aftermarket genesis to 32x cable doesn't work with the audio.

I believe that if you are using the 32X stereo AV cables to go to your TV, you won't get sound unless you use the headphone jack. OR by using the Mono 32X output AV cable. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true.

I personally use this patch cable, which takes the stereo sound out of the headphone jack, and mixes it into the 32X like the model 2 would. Then the stereo AV cables can be used.

i think I'll just return the cable I got and pick up that cable or a model 2. I can get a model 2 with AC adaptor for 10 bucks + some shipping

so if I add a sega CD (not sure what version yet) will that cable you linked to still allow everything to work with the model 1 or will I need even more wacky cables to use all 3 together?

Still easier to get a model 2 but then it seems wasteful to have a model 1 and model 2 with one just sitting there doing nothing.

bleh....

i'll get a 1/8" to RCA (red/white) and is that as it seems once I get a Sega CD I'll have to use the headphone jack anyway to get stereo audio from the sega CD since it looks like you use the video out from the 32x and the line out from Sega CD.

lol, found a male 3.5mm to female RCA and used that. looks goofy as hell.....

still may get the model 2 anyway.
