SMS controller port problem

I'm having a problem with my sega master system. It seems that the up on controller 1 doesn't work. I've tried two different controllers in the port and both the same problem. They work fine in the second port. I had a look at the board and can't see any loose connections or solder.

Any ideas on how I could fix it? The console has "hang on" and a shooting came when I don't put a cartridge in...

First thing I would try is a toothbrush soaked with isopropyl scrubbed back and forth in the controller port. It just may solve the problem.
