Sega CD games issue

I'm helping a friend with some Sega CD stuff right now. His collection has been in a climate controlled storage compartment for several years, and about a week ago I took it out and started testing it. The Sega CD (it's a Model 1) works, but for some reason wasn't loading some of the discs. I chalked it up to the unit starting to fail, but then I decided to test some of the games that wouldn't load in Kega Fusion. A couple of them would load, but then hung on certain parts (Silpheed reaches the Stage 01 screen, but refuses to go any further, for example) and others either wouldn't load or would hang on the opening company logo.

Any suggestions? I only have his Sega CD unit to use, so I can't test the games out on anything other than my PC.

Make sure you have Perfect Sync on in Kega, it seems some games require that. For example, Earnest Evans wouldn't load for me in Kega unless I did so.
