I wish there was some sort of quick question thread that I could have asked this in because I'm not so sure it deserves an entire thread. I remember all the time growing up that the arcade near me had certain games with memory card slots in them that I believe (I never actually used them) would accept PS1/PS2 cards. The only game I can think of off the top of my head was Dance Dance Revolution, but I'm fairly certain there were others that had these slots. Google-fu only seems to bring up results for memory cards for the Xbox 360 Arcade edition rather than memory cards on actual arcade cabinets. Can anybody else think of games that had these, and why they were added in the first place? Seems strange to me now that I look back on it.

Arcade machines accepting memory cards is nothing new. They could be used with the MVS and Nintendo's Triforce arcade too. It's just a matter of saving and exchanging data. Like with F-Zero AX, you could bring your GX data and unlock some content from the arcade version very easily, while if you never use your GX data with AX, it's a much bigger pain to unlock the same content (and, unfortunately, with the AX cabinets being extremely rare in the US, players were pretty much forced to unlock the content the hard way).

Initial D is the first one that comes to mind, but that might have been Japan only. I think they might have been custom?

I'm pretty sure Gauntlet Legends had a N64 memory card slot.

Most, if not all Naomi cabinets had Dreamcast card slots for the same reasons mentioned above.

Neo Geo MVS cabs had memory card slots that you could take home to your AVS.

I want to say Blitz had a N64 reader in it as well, I remember it from high school which is funny because I never played the game :P

I don't know if it made it into the final release, but I remember reading about how Alien Front Online arcade cabinets were supposed to have a VMU slot.

NFL Blitz '99 had N64 controller pak ports on some cabinets to load your plays from the original N64 NFL Blitz game.
