So the biggest news from Gamescom for me is the dropping of all Vita MSRPs to $199. That's the same price as a 3DS XL, which I've owned since launch and loved.

I'm guessing that there's not going to be many revisions like with the PSP, and now's the time to buy?

They're also supposed to drop the memory card prices, which would be as beneficial to sales of the console than an actual Vita price drop.

I was going to pick up Ys: Memories of Celceta when it comes out but didn't know when I'd get the console. With the news of the price drop, I'd say probably by the end of the year or early 2014. :)

So many good games I've seen come to the Vita...is it worth it to by a Playstation Plus membership if I don't have a PS3? Just to use it on the Vita? I've got a list of Vita games I want to pick up, tell me if anything's missing:

- Dragon's Crown
- Persona 4: Golden
- Tearaway
- Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland
- New Little King's Story
- The HD Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character

Anything else? Preferably Vita-exclusives?

I think the price drop is great news. I was somewhat disappointed that very little new software was announced. I love my Vita, but outside of JRPGs it gets very little use nowadays.

Aren't JRPGs primarily what the American audience who buy Vitas play?

That never really bugged me.

If that's indeed the case, then that doesn't bode well for the Vita, considering JRPGs are relatively niche in the US. If they want the handheld to be a success in the US, they need more "AAA", mainstream games.

The Vita is already on track to become one of "those" systems that's admired by certain segments of people online but forgotten about by everyone else.

For use on just the Vita you're not getting the full benefit because there might be one, sometimes two titles a month that's playable on the Vita. If you or anyone else get PS+ but only have the a Vita, you can't purchase any of the PS3 games on there, but if you go to this site then you can. It's recommended to purchase the free games every week incase you happen to get a PS3 in the future.

I'm not going to tell you to get PS+ for the Vita but here are the games that are currently available for free right now and games I can remember that have been free for only the Vita(including PSP.) This way you can make your own decision on whether it's worth it or not. Also remember that some of these games will be leaving at the first Tuesday of next month, so if you don't have it by then this list might change a little and you can almost guarantee you won't see that title available again.

Games currently available that are playable on the Vita are Dokuro, Metal Slug XX(PSP/7 on DS,) Gods Eater Burst, Pinball Arcade, Knytt Underground, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Gravity Rush, and Wipeout 2048.

Games that were previously available for the Vita. Jet Set Radio, Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions, Mega Man X Maverick Hunter X, Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus, Disgaea 3, Blaz Blue(Vita,) Tekken 6, Soul Calibur Broken Destiny, and Retro City Rampage. Can't remember the others, but there's an idea of what's been available.

Then it would be doomed to an early death, and even those who prefer niche Japanese games would be screwed because tons of good games would end up not getting localized.

I love my Vita. I play it often. That is great news on the price of the console and if they drop the prices of memory. That should spark things for the upcoming holiday season! I still think the Vita is going to do well and that it's just off to a bit of a slow start. I've noticed that it's kind of going the way of the PSP. Never quite as popular as the Nintendo offerings, but over time the library and popularity will build up. The Vita can't help it. It's just way ahead of it's time.

I'm still happy with my PSP-3000 but this is great news. I'll probably wait six months or so and then buy one used nice and cheap off Craigslist.

Still light as hell on games for the masses. I always see Vita defenders show up with a list of 15-20 games that are great on Vita when someone complains about lack of games but they span across a bunch of genres. The masses like certain types of games and not others, so from that 15-20 game list only 1-5 apply to them. Same thing is happening with WiiU. System can still turn it around though, and I believe it will.

All I can say is that if you love JRPGs, both the 3DS and Vita seem like great options...

I go one step further and say that handhelds are a great place to go for lovers of retro gaming-type experiences, maybe THE place to go.

Hopefully this works out for Sony. I would like to see the Vita do well (and buy one myself).

The price drop was good news but long overdue. I haven't been that interested in the Vita because the one game I wanted for it(Call of Duty) is said to be the worst COD ever released. Plus I have a 3DS and that system suits me just fine for my current gen handheld fix. Anyway, whats really set up to start moving Vita's(beyond the price drop and eventual memory card price drop) is the remote play it will have with the PS4 when that launches. But the question is will that be enough.

I used to own one miss it at times but I still don't think there's enough unique variety there when you exclude fps and cross ported ps3 games which I wouldn't touch. It was a fun system as uncharted, golf and lumines were fun.

Demon Gaze looks good also, but it's not coming out until 2014. First person dungeon crawler.

*edit*

It's for the 3DS, but first time I've played Etrian Odyssey with the fourth game. Has some issues with it but it's pretty good. Also a first person dungeon crawler.

I'm glad they wised up and dropped the price, but the Vita is like a longer term mini version of the WiiU software drought. Sony can't seem to get their shit together to make the system really worth buying unless you're the type who can be happy with the built in features and a game every 3mo or so before you buy another. I'd love to have another but it would end up like a NGPC or a Virtual Boy to me where I'd play the few fun things, then wonder what the hell to do with it other than store it on a shelf for months or longer at a time.

I wonder how much ios games for the ipod touch have undercut the market for 'traditional' handhelds. IOS games are pretty cheap compared to games on the 3ds and the vita

would a 3g ps vita be 199 aswell if you could find one?
