this weekend at a Kay-Bee Toy Liquidator I pick up a PS2 game called Eternal Ring for $9.99. It had a thick white band around it printed multiple times with "pre-played game" and was re-shrinkwrapped, it also had a new upc code sticker over the one on the back.

the thing that has me curious is that the seal at the top of the case (you know those nasty ones that are a bitch to peel off) was still intact. if it was pre-played would they bother to put a new one of those on? when I opened it it looked brand new. the other curious thing was that they had multiple copes of the same game.

they also had a game called Super Bubble Pop that was packaged the same way. could they actually be new games that were just stickered and re-shrinkwrapped to sell at a lower price? why bother though?

any ideas?

actually........oddly enough, i bought monsters inc. today for $10, previously viewed.......or so i thought. but i opened it on my walk to the car and it did have the horrid title sticker on top perfect as ever. and when i got it open, the 2 discs looked brand spankin new, but there was a crease in the chapter insert. and honestly......i think if they were previously played, some places would pop them open, you can still get in with the sticker on top and get the disc out. and if they scratch it in the process.......what do they care, its just their job and not their budget:) o well i got monsters inc. for $10 so i stopped caring too much after i rethought about it :o

They're probably the cases they used for display in their stores. They're just being nice and selling them as preplayed even though they actually haven't been used.

but even the display boxes dont have anything in them..........when i buy movies at family video, you take the rental up with its case and one of the display cases and you either walk out with both after you pay or they're nice enough to open both up and put the dvd in its respective place......

Man I am still wondering about this, I asked some people about this, and at first they taught they could figure it out, but soon after gave up, I shall continue to try to figure this insanity out :D .

KB opens one of each game and puts the original case out on the floor for people to look at. They get a new copy from a case behind the counter and put the empty case back out when someone buys the game. If they pulled certain titles from all stores, they'd have one of each title from every store that had been opened. That would explain why there are a lot of copies of certain titles. It would also explain why the seals are still on. The instruction books for the PSone titles were bent up because they are the cover for the game, too, and people can get to them.

make sense.......but why was the chapter insert bent up when i bought my dvd.......and all the insert trash was still in there too.......but i looked a little closer at the dvd and it must have been used at one point, cuz there are a couple nicks in it.
