I'll be honest. THAT SICKENS ME!!!!!

If I could pull that guy to the side and have some words with him they would look like :bad-words:

I mean really those things are for COLLECTORS.

Thats pretty f'ed up there man  ... hey, any ideas who that is. I know of 3 of us from Phoenix on the DP boards and none of us made it to CGE this year. I'd be interested to know who this is as I deal with quite a few folks here in the valley..

Simple solution. Just email all biders and winner that the games will be available through the CGE guys at a more reasonable rate (assuming this is true like with previous CGE releases.) That way the winners back out of the auction and the seller loses. :D

I agree that the whole thing sucks, but that right there is called Bid Syphoning and a big no no in terms of eBay.

Really? Wow, I've been using eBay for years and have never heard of that. Is this true even if the person emailing the winner gains nothing from it? I've emailed a bunch of people in the past basicly telling them they're getting ripped off, never knowing there was enything wrong with this. For the most part it was auctions for items that were bought brand new (sometime even on the Net) and were being sold right away at a higher price. I could see if you were trying to lure them to your own auction or something similar but I would never had guessed that it was wrong to tell somebody that they could get a similar thing cheaper somewhere else (other than anything doing it for your own monetary gain.) Go figure.

Yeah, that's called "Auction Interference" ...also against the eBay rules. Be careful. ;)

I agree. This could easily land you in hot water if one of the bidders you contact in turn emails the seller and relates what you said. Seller reports you to eBay, and then it's only a question of whether eBay acts on it.

Definite no-no.

Although I, myself, want to beat sense into bidders every day on eBay, it is a free market and you shouldn't feel obligated to educate the masses.

On the other hand, there's nothing wrong with emailing the seller directly to ask wtf as long as it doesn't constitute harrassment.

While I think that this is disgusting as well I also kind of feel that the designers of these games are asking for this to happen. First they make only very limited supplies of these games available and then they sell them for a limited time and only in select places.

People like this wouldn't be able to get these prices if these games were made more readily available by the authors.

Too true. And for those with incredible amounts of disposable wealth, the markup probably seems tolerable to avoid the hassle of hunting these things down in person.

Serial number all the games and id people buying them at the show.

Then they can always cross check the ebay auctions and know who to black list from buying them. Yeah theres a ton of holes in that plan but maybe something similar would work.

If there werent any idiots to shell out those prices for the games on ebay it wouldnt happen.

But Ya it kinda sucks you know the guy isnt hurting for cash and had to sell some stuff he just went to the show with the intention of making a quick buck off the people that love games and really put alot of hard work into homebrews.

It aint like the people releasing them are getting rich off of it and its a good thing the majority of the buyers are about love of the hobby and not being weasels or we wouldnt be seeing any releases like that.

Another year, same shit.

this guy obviously was uneducated about what was what.. Those were just the games at the front.. the big money LE homebrews were the Vectrex homebrew and Steve Woita's "Special Collector's Edition" game CLICKUM which I have 18 of 40..

Just use an e-mail address that is not affiliated with your e-bay account, and e-bay can't do a thing about it.
Remember it isn't illegal , e-bay just doesn't like it. :D
They're E-Bay not the government or god.

Why is everyone so upset about this? The guy baught some games and is trying to sell them? What is the crime?

Yeah, I also don't see what's wrong with this (other than the fact that the dude will never sell those games for 100 bucks a piece - ebay has stupid bidders, but no one that stupid). There are many collectors who would like to get this game, but were unable to go to CGE. I didn't buy any of the CGE exclusives, but I don't see what's wrong with selling a copy or two - it's not like this guy walked into CGE and bought every copy available.

Some games, like the Ewok's that was put out at NECG with the specific request not to resell, should be kept off ebay, at least for a little while. But this doesn't seem too bad.

Unless the person you're contacting through eBay is using an e-mail address as his/her user ID, you must be an ebay member to send them a message.

The only way around this is to create a 'throwaway' account... which is not against the rules unless you use it to interact directly with another account you own, such as leaving feedback, or shill bidding.

I don't know why this bothers people but every year we go through this.
As long as you know where to get one for the original price don't sweat it.

BUT

If you really really wanted to stop people from doing this then I'd suggest you have the original sellers post BINs on ebay for the going rate as soon as possible. People won't be able to make a buck off eBay if the games are available on eBay for the original going rate.
