Xbox 360 won't read cds

I recently picked up an xbox 360 for $40. I was told it worked but then I try it out and it won't read any discs. After opening it and messing with it for a while I got it to work sort of. It will read dvds and games but not cds. This isn't really an issue since I don't plan to use it to play cds but I worry something else may be wrong that could cause problems down the line.

I had that problem with an 05 unit. Find the same model disk drive and replace it. I would wait till it goes though. If it works fine for everything you plan on using it for then its doing its job. I messed with the potentiometers on the old one and it half fixed it. It became picky for lack of a better term. So i just replaced it. It wouldnt read games or cds just dvds.

it is pretty weird but I was trying to show a friend of mine what it was doing and it started working fine.
