So I got the system, plugged it in and it only displays in black and white! There is no color switch and no color/b&w settings in the settings menu, so what is wrong here?

Sure you didn't get a PAL system?

The place I bought it from said they got it working in color.

It could be that the chroma signal is too weak. If you are using RF try using a shorter cable connected directly to the TV or switch to composite.
