Hey guys,

So I've got a Master System AV cable on order (I'm finally hooking up the darn thing on a more permanent basis now that I have the space).

In the meantime, a thought struck me:

The Master System and Genesis 1 use the same cable connector, and I have a 32X Genesis 1 cable adapter sitting around. So I connected it up and ran my Genesis cable to it. The problem here is that while I get beautiful video, I get no sound. Can anybody tell me if this is just a problem of different pinouts on the cable adapter?

It won't matter in a few days. It's just idle curiosity on my part. If anybody more familiar with the SMS could weigh in, I'd appreciate it.

As I recall, If your Genesis 2 a/v cable does not have the full 9 pins, you will not get any audio because pin 6 will not be connected. Most genesis 2 a/v cables had only 3 pins connected Stereo left and right pins 8 and 9 and pin 4 composite video. See the pin out diagram here... http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/genesisav.htm

THAT makes a LOT of sense actually! I remember having at one time a few Genesis cables with the full 9 pins, but they kind of got lost and I wound up with just the 3 pins. Thanks for the help!

Also note that the Genesis 1 and SMS pinout from the back does not support stereo audio, just mono.

Yeah, that I knew. Eventually I may get around to doing the FM Sound mod and some other tinkering but for now I just want at least composite. I hooked the system up via RF as part of my testing to make sure that it wasn't a system sound problem and...well... I could have dealt with the colors but the static was really getting to me. :)

Neat. I never thought of that, 32X cable is intended to carry RGB.
