I know little to nothing about the Dreamcast. But PS1 is one of my larger collections as it is easy to find and has loys of iconic titles.

For me.
Norse by Norsewest was one if the best games I have played for PS1. It was the Third installment of the Lost Vikings games. It had (for its time) next gen graphics that popped and the same quirky jokes that the other lost vikings games had that made them great.

The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. A rare game and idea. In this game you for one played as an antagonist from the Megaman series which was different. And the gameplay was unique. You controlled the servbots like kerbals and sent them on missions from your Ship/HQ. Very cool.

Intelligent Qube. This game is fun to me, but most of my friends cannot stand it. Its a fantastic puzzle game. Also it had an extremely low production. The value on this game jumps up and down more than a 5 year old who wants to go to toys r us. Still its a must have for me.

Or you can buy Final Fantasy VII and call yourself a collector.

P.S. for playability and fun, check out the medievil games. They're a blast.

If you into RPG games, the PS1 is a treasure-trove for this genre :) Games like Final Fantasy, Valkyrie Profile, Lunar, Suikoden, Star Ocean, just to name a few, are found in this power box of goodness

It really depends on what kind of games you like to play. If you like RPGs, the Playstation has an outstanding list of must play RPGs. If you like fighting games, the Dreamcast has several outstanding fighters like Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike, Soul Calibur and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. Both consoles have a solid list of shooters, like Mars Matrix and Border Down on the DC, and Thunder Force V and Strikers 1945 on the Playstation.

I'd suggest the Dreamcast just for Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Bass Fishing (Get Bass), F355 Challenge and Bangai-o.

You'll really need to come up with your own answers on that one.

They are both super platforms to collect for. Either way don't be dumb and limit yourself to only North American releases, the import market for both consoles is very deep with variety and top tier designs.

Numbers wise you're looking at ~1275 PSOne games vs 249 DC games.

Great fighters on DC, Great RPG's on PSOne, a smattering of great random stuff for each system and a bunch of crap, though the PS takes that cake hands down.

The games on the DC will looks much better than the stuff on the PlayStation, especially early 3D PS games. Those just look like ass.

I've already got the full DC set and closing in on the PS set, so I may not be the best person to ask.

Collect fighting games, youll be able to find a ton no one really wants like Alpha 1 no one wants and build up from there to sequels. Tons of cross pollination if you like to see different versions of the same games, and both systems have exclusives.

Depends on what you're looking for. PS1 has a much larger library, and games are still relatively cheap and easy to find. Dreamcast has some really good games, and had some great graphics for its time, but the games now have become hard to find and are starting to get expensive. One issue though with Dreamcast is that there seems to be a common issue with the console disc reader scratching and scuffing discs rendering them unplayable. That was the one thing I remember about DC the most, those GD-ROMS were fragile, they scratched if you looked at them the wrong way, and even the smallest scuff mark would make the game unreadable.

If you're into RPGs, then perhaps collect for the PS1.

If you're into arcade-style games, shoot-em-ups, sports, racing, and fighting games, then go for the Dreamcast.

As for raw performance, the Dreamcast blows the doors off of the PS1.

To be honest, I have never even seen a Dreamcast in real life, so I can't say that much about it. But I can say that PS1 has got a whole lot of great titles! And it is just generally fun to collect for! :)

While I love the DC and consider it one of my top 5 favorite consoles of all time, it's really tough to beat the PS1 library.
