Does anyone here know how much original box art for older Atari 2600 games is worth? Have you seen any sell recently at auction or know of some price listing?
Thanks!

I remember asking this question a couple of years back but I can't find where I posted it. I don't think I got any exact answers to my question though. An original painting of Atari 2600 box art (without the added wording) would make an excellent art piece to hang on the wall of almost any home (regardless if the person liked games or not). I CAN tell you that a couple of years back I bid on original box art for Night Trap on Sega CD and the auction ended up around $15K I believe. It was actually being sold by Sega or whoever took care of the Digital Pictures estate (can't remember). That might of driven the price up a little higher because people most likely knew that it was authentic. I will keep an eye on this thread because I would love to get some original Atari 2600 art........even if it's Checkers!

It's an interesting question. There was a guy that had a bunch of Atari artwork that he obtained when he bought some old file cabinets from Atari as it was liquidating in the mid-80s. I know he tried to auction it through Sotheby's and the estimate was $150K-$200K, but I don't believe it actually sold.

Frankly, I remember looking at some of the catalog photos and much of it was printing proofs and other stuff that wasn't really "original art" per se.
I have seen some original computer game box art sell for $500 to $1000, but that was stuff that wasn't super iconic. I can only imagine that a really iconic and one of a kind piece could go for thousands or even tens of thousands depending on what it was.

Thanks for the info!
Anyone else know anything about Atari 2600 original box art sales or pricing?
Do any of the two or three video game history museums in existence have this type of art?
