Dipping a game. label question.

I am going to try a dip on a snes game. It has a lot of carbon on it fron a fire. I got it at a thrift store for 50 cents. Super Adventure Island. It plays great but looks dreadful. I had a few ideas to clean the grey and the cart itself.

Is there a way to waterproof a label temporarily?

I was thinking painters tape but dont know if it will work.

It may be better to remove the label with a blow dryer. I don't know of any kind of sealent/adhesive that can applied to the label that won't potentially ruin it upon removal.

You would have to know the chemicals that makes up the label's laminate and find some kind of sealent/adhesive that you could put over it like painter's tape is for painting. Only thing is the sealent/adhesive would have to form a vacuum around the label otherwise the solution you dip the cart into will surely get on the label. Look into professional art restoration supplies maybe?

I would honestly look into trying to remove the label using a hair dryer as suggested, but instead, find a donor cart (Madden or somesuch) and just transplant the label and innards.

Other than that, you might edge the label in painter's tape to protect it from the REAL adhesive, then use some other, more waterproof tape along the outside to keep the solution out. YMMV. I'd be SUPER CAREFUL no matter what you do.

What would the label look like after removal. A friend tried it and had horrible cracks to the lamination all over it. He did it to his Ducktales!!!!
I haven't seen it done successfully thus my hesitation. Has anyone had a good attempt they could post a photo of.
Its not the rarest game its just Super Adventure Island for SNES. The label is in great shape considering the cart is black with carbon. Any info is always a huge help. thanks everyone.
