I'm looking to buy a Playstation 2. I've read about a new model released in Japan that eliminates the firewire port & has some other spiffy improvements. Is that model being sold stateside yet?

I'm leaning towards the PS2 that comes with the broadband modem (cool-ass box) for $199, but has anyone seen a really good deal for a PS2 lately?

The best I've seen is when Kaybee had a sale where you got a PS2 for $149 when you bought a game with it.

Buy new or SONY refurbed only.

Trust me. I repair them. If you are not me, don't buy used. :)

Well there is a new version of the ps2 out where you no longer have to plug the dvd adaptor into a controller port, which leaves both player one, and two slots open, also this one comes with the network adaptor in the box, it is supposed to be 200 but I noticed it is 179 in quite a few stores like the old model ps2 so just search around a bit so you can find the right one.

NONONONONO. The newer model with better features is NOT available stateside just yet. The "online pack" is just a regular ps2 with the network adapter bundled in. A good friend of mine bought this thinking he was getting the newer model (hell, Best Buy even advertised these supposedly-included features) but they ARE NOT available in America yet. So if you'd like those features specifically, you have 3 choices: 1) Wait, 2) Import, 3) Move to Japan.

I went searching tonight to try to find the best deal for a new PS2. I haven't heard official word on the "new" model ever being brought here, so I figured I'd just go ahead & get one.

After hitting Best Buy, EB Games, Gamestop & Hastings, which all had the PS2 pack for $199.99, I finally found a small perk at Toys R Us, which had the online pack for $199.99 & you got a Soul Calibur 2 demo disk with a $10 off coupon for the game when its released.

I don't own an online game for the PS2 yet, but I figure something will catch my eye eventually. I usually buy all my EA sports games for the Xbox, but may go with the PS2 versions since they're online.
