Everybody with a collection has some sort of thing in it that isn't exactly a game, but fits the bill in other ways. Whether its an accessory to a game or to a console, to a statue of your favorite character, Name your favorite thing in your collection that isn't a game!\\^_^/

My Nintendo Power issue no.1 my first gaming memorabilia other than a game back in 89 I think. So much nostalgia from the era.

I love my Princess Kitana and Scorpion statues I have. The have two different heads to changed out. Scorpion has 3. The regular masked version, grinning skull and flaming skull. Kitana has masked version and unmasked version. Her fans change out as well. Bloody and non bloody. They look freaking awesome. Also Link riding Epona is epic. It's from Twilight Princess

My Electronic Games and Electronic Fun magazines from 1982 and '83. You can find PDFs of these gaming magazines, and more, here in the Digital Press library.

That and my little old-skool TV (complete with turny-knobs and hue/saturation controls).

Probably all the Popful Mail stuff I've managed to collect over the years. Besides the games I have all manner of promo items, books, audio CDs, posters, and even a resin kit figure (unassembled) in the Popful Mail corner of my office.

Xenosaga Movie DVD. It was a preorder bonus that came with Xenosaga 2( which sucks,) and is a four hour cut of scenes from Xenosaga to play out like a movie. According to a Youtube video there are seven hours of cutscenes though, so quite a bit was cut out, though I think it plays out well.

The thing that holds my collection; the shelving that I built about a year ago.

Not much besides that. I don't really collect gaming memorabilia or anything like that.

I entirely forgot about these bad boys. I love my Nintendo Power magazines. I don't know if I could definitely say No. 1 is my favorite, but the collection as a whole just gives me the warm fuzzies. NP mags are the only non-electronic gaming-related items I own apart from some plushies I bought my wife, but even had I other collectibles, my NP set would be at the top. Still need several more for a complete pre-N64 set, though.

I'm going to go with my mini-collection of Ace Attorney stuff. I got the set of trading figures, both the English and Japanese artbooks covering the first 4 games, the licensed Uniqlo "Objection!" shirt (sadly damaged so I can't wear it any more - has 2 holes near the bottom of the shirt courtesy of a loose metal fitting it got caught on at a former workplace - any suggestions as to what I should do with it are welcome), and a handmade Phoenix Wright plush.

The Phoenix plush was made by my fiancé, who labored for 8+ hours over a weekend to make it as a response to the disappointing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations preorder bonus. (The bonus in question was also a plush, barely bigger than a tall man's thumb.)

I've seen thin fabrics with designs on them placed over backlit plates of glass that look really cool. Depending on the logo or design, the effect can be pretty neat-o.

I don't generally collect ephemera or knick-knacks but my favorite non-game video game item is my Jack Flack pewter figurine from the Cloak & Dagger board game. It's the same exact figure that Henry Thomas' (the kid from E.T.) character uses in the film. Yeah, I know what you're thinking: "But that's from a board game, not a video game!". But as anyone who's seen the Cloak & Dagger movie will know, that film was basically an Atari 8-bit commercial disguised as a spy thriller. Besides, the board game had an arcade counterpart which you can see being played in the movie (on an Atari 5200!). Great flick, btw... an 80's classic! So Jack stands proudly on my game shelf protecting my beloved game carts :)

I have all sorts of bizarre stuff lying about - I am pretty proud of the maps that I have made for a few games on Excel.

I have made maps for:

Golden Axe Warrior (just a world map - no dungeons)

Warsong

Dark Wizard*

Brigandine

*This was the hardest - first I had to beat Excel over the head to get it to make hex grids and then to be able to color/fill in said hexes (each hex comprises 4 cells). It was also a large project because of the sheer size of the battlefields. I tried to make a comprehensive world map but the individual maps do not align - there is a major misalignment of a width of about 40 hexes that just doesn't exist on the individual maps when you put them together.)

Hopefully when I retire (which is looming ever closer - about 6 months) I will have more time to make maps - I would like to do some for the Shining Force games and Nectaris (among others).

TUrn it into a throw pillow. A friend of mine did that with a damaged Miskatonic University shirt. It's a nice conversation piece.

One of my favorites WAS my Viewtiful Joe bobblehead that I got for pre-ordering the game. A few years ago my cat(who is sitting next to me right now), knocked it off my entertainment center and busted it wide open. I was so pissed at him for like a week or two. I even remember kind of wishing he had broken my Spirited Away figurine that I spent $80 on at Disney World instead of Joe haha.

I don't collect very much memorabilia, but I do have a few things here and there. I really like my imported Super Castlevania IV soundtrack. I also have a cool Link and Epona(plastic) figurine and a Samus bobblehead that I'm pretty proud of.

Wow. How on Earth did you manage to make Hexagons in Excel?!

Happy retirement. I certainly know that I have more than enough retro games and other neat-o projects to delve into than the number of hours in the average remaining life-span (even without my day job). So much to do, so little time....

We are going to breakfast in a few minutes so I can't go into it right now - but I can describe it to you in more detail later - you have to really manipulate things but it is possible. And like so many things in excel once you modify the spreadsheet fully (column and row widths) and create a few hexes it goes pretty quickly since you just copy things adnauseum.

The hexes aren't perfect but they are pretty darn close. You can really only make one size on the spreadsheets but you can print out whatever size you want (I prefer 11x17 size printouts) depending on your printer.

I love excel! (I Like Lotus a lot better but that is a story for another day.)

Thanks - I am really looking forward to retirement - so many games, books and movies to plow through. So much yard work and home improvment projects (we just paid off the house so that has free up inceome for these).

The model of the R-9 that came with R-Type Command (Tactics in Japan) on PSP for those that pre-ordered, or often even if you did not.

Even if you didn't like R-Type Command, the model and the CG intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6_B4JkXixo) were worth the price of entry alone. Think of the game itself as a bonus. I loved it though.

Wow. How on Earth did you manage to make Hexagons in Excel?!

The first thing you need to do is change your column widths (you will wind up with three columns for each hex). the first column should be 1, the second should be 1.43. Repeat ad nauseum till you have enough. (There is a command that allows you to repeat column width patterns - makes it a lot easier.) The rows should be set at 14.5 height. You will need two rows for each hex on the edge of your map.

There is another commmand that allows you to change the orientation of the grid lines. The first cell should be set up so the grid line (not a text entry) should be /. the next should be the normal line at the top of the cell. the third should be \.

The middle (larger) cell immediately below will form the bottom half of the hex. Set your grid to look like this: \___/.

Once you have the first hex done, simply copy to make however many you want downwards.

Then copy that group of hexes over the third (a small width) column (shifting down one row) and you have the next set of hexes. Then copy those two groups and repeat until you have enough for your needs.

I like to keep a blank map with the grids at the start of the workbook - then you can just create a new one for each sheet that you create in the workbook as you go along. Helps to name them too so they are to reference them when you want to.

------------------------------------------------------------

Assuming this all worked right - it takes a bit of practice but once you have your first two columns (of hexes - not columns on excel) you are pretty much home free for that part of the project.

You hexes will have four cells that be colored or patterned as cells normally are. You can add letters or numbers in the middle upper cell and the lower cell of each hex - you can also orient then at an anlge if you wish - I did this in the dark wizard maps for the towns and castle names and made a legend on the edge of the map (in regular cells, not hexed ones). For dark wizard for the shrines and secret places I used two colors - the middle upper cell was one color and the other 3 were another. Made a pretty neat looking hex that had a triangular patch on the top half of the hex. I also added those to the legend at the side of the map.

You can copy the filled cells that you have created over - I did have some trouble with artifacting occurring when I copied filled hexes - grid lines would sometimes disappear and some portions of hexes would wind up the wrong color. I found it easier to fix them immediately as they occurrred - just basically recopying just the cells I needed to fix rather than the whole hex.

You can add roads and bridges by using the shape commands and using their lines. I don't like the way they are set up on the menu plus they are cumbersome to use and you can't really copy them - you have to create a new one for each road segment (you are pretty much stuck with straight lines - you can kinda draw them freehand but I couldn't get them to look decent at all. Maybe I am just not artistic enough.

You are pretty much stuck with one size hex on the worksheets - trying to increase the sizes on the cells/columns/rows didn't seem to look very good to me - but you can of course increase the size of your maps when you print them - I prefer mine on 11x17 - but 8x11s are nice because you can fit them in a loose leaf binder.

(Since you are using a lot of memory here, the printing can take a while.)

That is about it from what I can remember - I haven't had to make a new sheet in awhile since I just take an exisiting blank one and modify it as I need for new maps. Plus I haven't had the time to start a new project.
