Anyone like fighting games from the early 90's better than nowadays? Or like Games around 1999 and 2000 more?

I love SF III 3rd Strike, I play at an arcade with guys all the time. I really like Soul Calibur 1 and 2 also. Super Turbo is another one I like to play against people at the arcade with since its 25 cents. I cant wait for Guilty Gear Xrd comes out, Ill jump in on the series more leading up to that, I love the art direction of the series and its a crazy game series. I wish I could delve more into DOA and BlazBlue. SNK games are nice too.

Before unlockables became a thing, would be my preference.

Agreed on the unlockables, especially the disgusting paid ones you get now of which some hide on the very same disc(glaring at Capcom.)

That said my old favorites probably still are Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha 2. They got the most use and fun times out of me though SF3 3rd Strike on Dreamcast was pretty solid as well. Also I really did dig SNK vs Capcom and in particular Samurai Shodown 1 and 3.

My favourite is definitely Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. I also love Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Too bad it wasn't on the PS3 where there would be more online. The hyper combos are hilarious. Going back I played so much MVC2 back in the day. I honestly don't know how much money I spent on that. I always made time to go play whenever I went out. Whether it be after school, during a gap between classes, out with friends, out with my girlfriend. I needed my fix.
Capcom vs SNK and 2 is also a great game. I hope Capcom makes another thats if they can get their stuff together. Good thing I have my Dreamcast and PS2 for those games.

Darkstalkers is a pretty decent game along with XMen vs Streetfighter and Marvel vs Capcom. Thankfully I got all these so I don't have to go look for an arcade to play these. Primal Rage was entertaining also

My favorite fighter of all time is probably Tekken Tag Tournament, the arcade version (not the PS2 one -- there are a lot of differences).

I love fighters in general though <3

I second wiggyx, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Capcom vs. SNK 2 are up there. Along with 3rd Strike and Street Fighter Alpha 2/3.

I really enjoy King of Fighters 2003, even more than some of the later titles. Last Blade 2 *might* be my actual favorite fighting game, with Garou: Mark of the Wolves close behind. Samurai Shodown has had some mis-steps but I still enjoy 1-2, and VI.

I still bust out some SNES Street Fighter II: World Warriors for nostalgia every once in a while. Fatal Fury 2 and World Heroes 2 are pretty decent. If you ever get a chance, spend a few minutes playing TMNT: Tournament Fighters for NES. It's just kind of cool to see how a fighting game could be constructed on the NES, and how technical it is.

I have often overlooked fighting games because they don't appeal to me all that much. However, as I kid I do recall playing Virtua Fighter in the arcade, and I presently own Soul Calibur III, which I'd have to say is the best fighting game I've ever played (though again, I haven't played many).

Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast!

That game still gets my blood pumping.

I usually mainly like fighting games based on licensed characters the best. Things like Dragon Ball Z and other anime characters, X-Men and other superhero/comic book characters, and games based on already existing video game characters (games like Smash Bros). But sometimes a pure fighting game series ends up being great as well including Tekken and King of Fighters (& the SNK family of games.) I really liked Dark Legend for Sega Saturn because it was the first game I found in a game store and tried for the system. First fighting games I ever played for a system always leave an impression on me. That's why I like Tuff E Nuff for Super Nintendo.

I was pretty stoked when I found a Geocities hosting all the characters from Tuff E Nuff for Mugen 6 years ago. I got bored of Mugen though because when people were taking too long to develop the characters I wanted to add I got tired of waiting and lost interest. Plus a lot of different series and developers' characters were so oddly balanced or matched that it took the fun out of the game if you got stuck fighting someone who was too overpowered.

Without a doubt, my favourite is easily Street Fighter Zero 3 on the Saturn. Perfect control & animation, though I admit the V-ism sort of makes the game unbalanced.

I really like Virtua Fighter 5:FS. The gameplay in the VF series has always been really precise and technical, though it's not exacly welcoming to newcomers.

I siuck at it, but I really dig Street Fighter III: Third Strike

Street Fighter 4 is pretty good too.

I also enjoy Tekken 3 & 6.

I used to really enjoy Capcom vs SNK 2, it's a shame it hasn't had a remake like some of the Capcom fighters have on current consoles with online play.

I'm not a big fan of fighting games, but these are some of my favorites:

Sega Genesis - Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Playstation 1 - Tekken 3 and SoulBlade (SoulEdge)

I liked killer instinct or any Tekken.

Dead or Alive 5
Tekken 6
Teken Tag Tournament 2. I like this better than 6 because of the graphics, but I don't really like the tag aspect. It's difficult enough to be decent at it, too hard to be decent at it and do tag combo strings. I'll probably enjoy it more when they release Tekken 7 and tag is no longer the main game.
Ehrgeiz
Bloody Roar 3
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter 4
Virtua Fighter 4 and 5
Dissidia Duodecim. Anyone good at Dissidia, I'm trying to get back into it but my friends don't want to play anymore or the ones that do aren't very good.

Tron 2.0

NeoGeo - Garou - Mark Of The Wolves / Samurai Shodown 3
PlayStation - Street Fighter Alpha 3 / Samurai Shodown 3
PlayStation2 - Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (25th Anniversary Edition) / Sega Ages Virtua Fighter 2
PlayStation3 - Virtua Fighter 4 Final Tuned / Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition

I hate it to say... but the snes and megadrive are not god at fighting games due their hardware limitations.

^Not with the original 1st party controllers, no. 3 buttons, or triggers, aren't spectacular for 6 button fighting games.

If you mean the games themselves, they ran fine enough, and controlled well enough, but you were better off getting a 6 button controller, or a 6 button arcade stick for the Genesis, or the Super Advantage for the SNES.

I have played a lot of fighting games over the years but there were only a handful that I liked enough to sink a lot of time into.

Sega CD:
Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Darkside - It has some amazing graphics and animation, awesome music, gruesome moves and some sick and twisted humor. It also had one of the largets character rosters of the time. They really went all out with EC:CD. There is so much on the disc it still impresses me to this day. Tons of secrets, tons of game modes and overall one of the most robust game packages i have ever seen. My friends and I spent months and months playing this when it came out and we still give it a go every once in a while to this day! It's a game that's tough as nails but there is really no substitute for it.

Saturn:
Virtua Fighter 2 - I played this game religiously until fighters Megamix was released. A simply beautiful game. Running at 60 fps in the Saturns HiRes mode and displayed through an S-Video cabel was truely a sight to behold upon its release. It still looks incredible to this day. The first two VF games were quite divisive because of their floaty controls an moon jumps, but I loved it. It was so fluid and different than any other fighting game out there. It also has some of the greates video game music of all time... so that didnt hurt either. The series really changed direction after VF 2 so it remains a firm favorite of mine.

Virtual On: Cybertroopers - Such a unique game and near flawless arcade conversion. The arenas and mecha designs were top notch and the music was unforgettable. It took a while to master but was an experience like no other. Unfortunately the first instalment was the pinnical of the series. It looked and sounded the part, but was almost unplayable with the DC pad and the PS2 version had some horrible design choices.

Fighters Megamix - I had so much fun with Fighting Vipers back in the day, but when Fighters Megamix was released it made Fighting Vipers irrelevant. It used the same engine (unlike VF2) and took the entire Fighting Vipers game and the entire Virtua Fighter 2 game and threw them together. Then they tossed in other Sega related characters and TONS of secrets and game modes that it gives EC:CD a run for its money which is really saying something. Its like Segas take on King of Fighters... but less serious and certainly not as refined. Its one of the most fun fighting games I have ever played and continue to play to this day.

Street Fighter Alpha Gold - I have never really cared for the Street Fighter II games, but the Stret Fighter Alpha series really clicked with me. I love the characters, music, graphics and gameplay. It all really came together for me in the Alpha series.

Nintendo 64 -
Mace: The Dark Age - My friend had this game and we would spend hours playing it at his house passing the controller from friend to friend holding small tournaments. It was a lot of fun and had a great sense of humor. While I wished the graphics were a bit better they were still decent for what they were, but unfortunately not a path on the arcade.

Dreamcast -
Soul Calibur - SC 2 was arguably the better game, but the original made such an impact upon release that few games can. It really was a landmark title. It was a tad on the easy side, but offered just enough variety and extras to keep me and my friends busy to this day. Honestly it was so good... that beyond the second installment I really dont ever need to buy another Soul Calibur game.

Dead or Alive 2 - Similar to Soul Calibur, DOA2 was quite the landmark title when released and was a lot of fun. Easy to pick up and play, amazing graphics, great music and the multi tiered stages were really cool.

There are a lot more fighing games that I really enjoy, but all of these are probably my favorites.

Being pretty hopeless at fighting games, I tend to prefer the more accessible (read:easy) ones like Dead or Alive 2 and Soul Calibur, games you can complete without having to memorise whole rafts of combos or practice for hours on end.

Good to see a mention of Eternal Champions for the Mega CD though - I loved that game. The Mega Drive version itself was pretty uninspiring, but the Mega CD version was a massive overhaul and I spent a long time trying to unlock what I could on it.

Put in another vote for the original Marvel VS Capcom and X-Men Children of the Atom in the arcades.

- SF2 Hyper Fighting
- SF Alpha 2 Gold
- SF3 Third Strike
- Samurai Showdown 2
- Hokuto no Ken (Atomiswave/PS2)

Honorable mention...

- Darkstalkers/Vampire series
- Double Dragon (NeoGeo)
- Kizuna Encounter
- KOF 98 / series
- Dragoon Might
- Power Rangers Fighting Edition
- Gundam Endless Wing (SFC) / Gundam Battle Assault series (PS1)
- Last Blade series
- Garou Mark of the Wolves
- Real Bout Fatal Fury series

Tatsunko vs Capcom is probably my favorite Capcom fighter it's just so dang charming.

I lament that we will probably never get a Tatsunko vs Marvel game.

Which would be the hypest super-hero crossover of all time.

The original Mortal Kombat will always be my all-time favorite fighting game, and Street Fighter II Turbo for the SNES is a very close second. Some other amazing fighting games I'm in love with would include Battle Arena Toshinden, Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Kasumi Ninja, Ultra Vortek, Mortal Kombat II, Samurai Showdown, and a few others that escape me right now. All in all I'm not a massive fan of the genre but there are some games that have weaved their way into my gaming soul and I do appreciate them quite a bit.

I don't know if its my favorite, but I've put a lot of time into Super Smash Bros Melee.
My friend and I used to play that game every day from sunrise to sunset.

I also really enjoy 3rd Strike! (I wish Capcom would put Q in another fighter)
