Retro Gamer Magazine recently released this SNES/Genesis bookazine package. Looks to be 200 pages long, with 100 devoted to each classic system. I ordered mine already and can't wait to read it!

Of important note is it appears to be 90-95% reprints of previously published material found within the pages of Retro Gamer Magazine... but if you don't have many or any of the RG issues (a la moi), then this "reprint" will be no issue (pardon the pun) to you as it might as well be a first print run ;)

Just take a look at these sexy, tantalizing pictures. That is a 16-bit gaming fan's wet dream right there!

Only wish each system got a 300-page book instead... as you could easily fill 300 pages with either system's library and legacy. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers, I suppose. I am still dreaming of a day where we'll get a 400 page NES Bible, a 400 page SNES Bible, etc. A nice sturdy, thick coffee table book... it'd be the ultimate, perfect companion to our old favorite systems :)

Retro Gamer is a UK only publication correct? Odd they could call the 16-bit Sega portion "Genesis" and not MegaDrive as it was known over there and pretty much everything EXCEPT for North America.

I'm interested, but I worry that this kind of thing is mostly going to be for people who have some interest in, but are not hardcore 16-bit gamers. Otherwise, they'll either already know most of the information or be able to find it online if they wanted to know badly enough.

Not saying I wouldn't love to read this myself, but I wonder who this is really aimed at.

I bet they went back and forth over calling it that or not.

I got their Atari book last year and thought it was excellent. I'll keep an eye out at the local Barnes & Nobles for this new book. Thanks for the heads up!

Retro Gamer is such an awesome magazine. I remember sitting at the bookstore time after time and devouring their issues and having the nostalgia swallow me whole. This would make for an awesome gift to any hardcore gamer or someone that needs a good reminding of their childhood and how awesome things used to be.

Odder still is that the MegaDrive dominated the UK, but the SNES was a game changer? Maybe I need to read more about the SNES' impact on the industry, but it just seems to me like the Genesis had a greater overall impact/influence on how the industry would move forward(acceptance of graphic imagery, early online capabilities, taking enough market share to show that more than 1 console could have a place in the market, getting Europeans to look at consoles as viable gaming platforms, etc.).

Also, couldn't they put a few bullet points of what to expect on the Genesis cover? "Unmissable shoot 'em ups" :p

I'd love to have these books in my collection. Or that someone would give it to me as present :)

Look at the Genesis cover. There's literally no "clear" room where they could. Sure they could squeeze it in somewhere, but it would block the system and not look pleasant.
The SNES has nice "clean space" for bullet points though :)

True, I guess that is one good thing about the North American SNES' look. It's so flat, it just works perfectly for a book cover.
