Revived topic from old forums

At present, I've completed the US collections for these systems:

32X*
3DO*
Adventurevision*
APF M-1000
Arcadia 2001
Atari 5200
Atari 7800*
Dreamcast*
Fairchild Channel F
Genesis*
Intellivision
NUON*
Odyssey2
Pico *
Sega CD*
Sega Master System*
Turbografx-16*
Vectrex
Virtual Boy*

* = includes at LEAST the box, if not box & instructions.

Saturn is next for me.

Didn't you mention that you completed a NUON collection too?

I've completed...nothing. My goal's to buy stuff I think I'll play, not get a "complete set" of games for a platform with 90% of them being stuff I'll never play. :)

Hello DP,
do me a favour and send me an email of the Dreamcast tiltes, please?

Funny enough my first completed system is the first -Odyssey-. Recently I got the four 1973 games at a bargain price of $500.00.

with all my collecting i haven't been able to complete any collection. but I'm only buying NES, Snes, and Genesis right now as I haven't been able to locate a source of pre-nes games and have only come across two lots of common 2600 games this year. As for Nes i'm getting to the point where the games in need are 1) rare or 2) expensive if not found in the wild. i.e. DW4, Bubble Bobble 2

Oh yeah, NUON. I updated my list, thanks for the reminder!

As for the Dreamcast list, we have it here:

Thanks,
also, how complete is complete? Do the private games from various amateur VCS prgrammers count? Or Lynx? Or Jaguar?

digitalpress
07-21-2002, 10:19 AM
It's all what you want it to be. When I say "complete US", I would consider ANY title available through any retail channel (stores, mail order, or website), though a Jaguar collector might not consider Songbird releases technically part of a complete US collection, and a US-based Atari 2600 collector might not consider homebrews - or even non-US released titles for that matter - part of their "complete collection".

Simply state your personal caveats if they're unique!

Just read the Dreamcast US list. Ok, so a game like 'Visual Park' (with hardware) wasn't released in the USA. But Seaman was. Sometimes we people in Europe can't be clear on this.
Are you planning to collect/complete the Japanese DC, also for Virtual Boy?

digitalpress
07-21-2002, 10:31 AM
I pick up "import" titles from time to time (example: Shenmue II or Manhunter on DC) but I really do concentrate on US titles for collecting.

tom
07-21-2002, 10:32 AM
I think there should be a clear line of some sort. Remember that 1/4 of VCS titles from Atari/Activision and many more USA companies didn't even make it to the shores of Europe.
Going by German VCS releases, I completed the VCS range a long time ago. But I never considered it to be complete without the US releases. Later the prototypes surfaced, and now the amateur/homebrew games are starting to emerge.
Maybe the (official) life of the console should be the completing collecting factor.

I have completed US collections of the following systems:

Atari 7800
Atari Jaguar
Nintendo Virtual Boy
Nuon

I'm only a couple carts short of completing my 2600 collection and need atound 20 carts each to complete my Intellivision and Odyssey2 collections (actually probably lesss than 20 for the O2 collection).

DP, do you have to have the box and manual for each game for it to be a complete collection?

OK whay did it erase my account when they switched it over to the new board, oh well. I've got the following complete US collections.

Pioneer Laseractive
Turbo Duo
Turbo Grafx
Neo Geo MVS

None.

I'm relatively close on intellivision and coleco, only need the really rare ones really.
Atari 2600 I probly need another 50-100
Odyssey 2 I need about 5

Everything else I'm not more than 50-60% done

rolenta

do you have to have the box and manual for each game for it to be a complete collection?

In the older systems I'm happy just to get the cart (although I have most of the manuals). Unfortunately I threw all of my boxes away over 20 years ago and I'm not about to start to try and collect them again.

The closest to complete would be my Vectrex collection. I still need the following:
Space Wars
Blitz!
Heads-Up Action Soccer
3D Minestorm
Narrow Escape
Crazy Coaster

If anyone has any of these for a good price, contact me.

I haven't completed any yet either. My closest would be my 5200 collection with only one game missing; Star Wars: Death Star Battle

I'll still need about 8-10 more boxes & manuals to have a *totally complete* collection. :D

Next closest is SMS with around 75 boxed games. I simply don't have the desire to try and collect every game anymore though. There's too much crap for alot of these systems. And I don't play crap games, so I don't feel like keeping them for very long. I doubt if I'll ever have any complete collections after I finish up my 5200.

:( Well, It doesn't count but I have every Nintendo system :-P I am about 35% done with my NES collection and a sad 15% with SNES.

In some cases (like Turbografx, Master System, NUON, for example) I have all of the packaging. In others (like Odyssey2) I do not. I consider it complete when I've got all the games, but thanks for bringing that up, I'm gonna make another edit to my original post.

What fun is there in completing US collections? Broaden your horizon, people! 8) :D

Cheers,

Marco (who only collects 2600 and will therefore never have a complete collection)

I've finished a few collections in my time:

- Atari 5200 (carts; still looking for a few boxes.. although I'm pretty sure I'll never own a box for Bounty Bob Strikes Back)
- Atari 7800 (except for the HES release of Baseball, not sure if that counts)
- Vectrex (US and all the homebrews boxed, have a pretty decent set of MB carts)
- Intellivision (with the exception of the original Computer module that I had/sold :P)
- Laseractive (except for a few Japanese releases)
- Sega Master System (US)
- Neo Geo Pocket (both US and Japanese)
- Microvision
- TurboGrafx-16 (will never have a complete collectio of PC-Engine games, just too damn many :P)
- Virtual Boy (US)

Now, will anyone please sell me a copy of Krazy Ace Miniature Golf for the Lynx so I can check that one off too?? :)

I don't have any complete collections so far, though I'm 59% done with my Intellivision collection and almost 50% done with my Jaguar collection.

Personally, I have zero interest in completing a collection for any system. I only buy the games for each that I like...but I do have a pretty damn good stack of shooters and RPGs :) I'm up to about 550 games now.

I've got a complete collection of American Sega 32x games, the two UK exclusive, the Japanese exclusive, 2 prototype ROMS, and some slides of some unreleased 32x games.

That's it. Pitiful, I know. I don't foresee any more complete collections in the future, either.

Divorce is hell.

I personally am not a completest either, but I feel that if any of my systems need completing it's my NES collection. I'm suprised I haven't seen more people working Genesis and Snes collections only these days as NES collecting (once a $1 bin thing) is getting mainstream and prices are starting to rise on many titles just from the supply/demand. Stores like Gamestop charging 25.99 for a loose FF1 and 5.99 for a SMB3 make anyone who has some nes carts for sale ask $5.00. I find better deals on Snes and genesis now adays. two weekends of flee markets and I'll tell you that I found more then one person selling snes for $4 and NES for $5. I have to get to the flee markets at 7:50am just to get the only titles worth $3-5 like Bump and Jump, bubble bobble, Popeye and DK collection.

Ok, I'll see if I can compete:

Complete US/Australian/Brazilian/European Sega Master System collection, prototypes, Pat Riley; more

Complete NES US/Euro/Australian collection including all the test carts, NWC, numerous unreleased prototypes

Complete US Vectrex collection, Minestorm 3D, homebrews, more

Complete US Virtual Boy , missing ONE Japanese VBOY game (Virtual Bowling)

Complete NEO GEO Pocket US Collection

Complete NEO GEO AES HOME CART USA Collection

missing 15 Intellivison games
missing 9 Jaguar Games
missing 15 Dreamcast Games
missing 55 3DO Games
missing 95 N64 games

COMPLETE Turbo Grafx AND TURBO DUO USA Collection

I have 5000+ games, but not too many other systems except for the above 5 I want to complete.

Uh... nothing! I still don't have Vertical Force or Jack Bros., so not even Virtual Boy!

Of course, I know the reason. I'm a lazy collector. I'm actually only a collector in the sense that I buy video game things and save them. But I rarely seek out anything - I just buy what I find at the fleas and tag sales, and only if it's a bargain price. This turns up good stuff - a boxed INTV System III, a brand-new (and I mean brand-new) Intellivision System Changer for a dollar, a brand-new NES Arkanoid for the same price, and that's just off the top of my head.

But this kind of buying 'strategy' doesn't ever equal complete collections. And it's just as well. I have what I'd call an impressive collection, and I can say it's worth about a hundred times what I paid for it. :D

I agree with this post.

I thik that the vast majority of games are average and below, so i think i wouldnt play a boatload of games i've spent money on.

I haven't completed anything yet. It's kind of hard when you're collecting for everything at the same time. I'm over 50% complete on a few systems though. NES, Intellivision, Odyssey2 and ummm... Pico.

Digital Press,
are you saying that you have a completed Odyssey collection including the 1973 games:
Interplanetary Voyage, Brain Games, Basketball, W.I.N.?

Because according to David Winter and Ulf Svensson, they only exists 4 times in the world:
Ulf, David, Tom (that's me), and 01player01 (ebay-nick).
If you have those 4 games as well, then they exists 5 times in the world and we have to make corrections, so please let me know.

Neo-Geo AES

LaserActive (US complete, Japanese missing Time Gal if only unique titles counted)

Virtual Boy (US complete, but I never consider this complete without all Japan-only titles added to it, the last 4 games don't motivateme to complete it)

very close

Dreamcast US (182 with the rest sports and other crap to fill up) - I'm only collecting new/sealed games, insane as if I want to play, I buy or borrow used ones.

Another note, I never consider homebrew, unofficial release as part of the collection, unless these titles are released at VERY different time frame than the official life cycle of the system, one prime example will be Songbird release which I would have to get if I'm collecting Jaguar, for me, in reality, not even a remote possibility. Got 6 great games and happy with it.

One sucky thing about trying to complete a collection, once you're down to a low number of games missing, you end up filling them up with craps in the end. I'm down to 55 new Dreamcast games and most are sports and choppy 3D titles, yuck, but at least I like 3/4 of them.

I thought I did have these actually, but now that I've checked I don't see them. Too bad, too - I purchased the Odyssey set "complete and boxed" in great condition a few years back. I guess it wasn't exactly "complete"! Ah well.

PS why oh why would a company only make FOUR of one game, by the way?
