I have 3 game gears , 1 working, 2nd one fixed, and a third that I used to practice on for soldering. A while back I broke off some tiny black piece in section C57. I don't know what they are, maybe some type of resistors, but I need to replace them in order for the system to work. The system still works, it's just the video that is dim. No one ever talks about these parts anywhere, only capacitors. One more thing, I also ripped the contacts off in section C54 capacitor by accident since it's just a practice board, but I managed to get a knife and scrape off a bit of the board to reveal the line it follows as told to me by another member. Can someone please explain to me what is in section C57 and do you really need those?

c57 is an smd ceramic inductor and yes it is definitely needed. Don't try and turn it on without it. You can get them off of smaller electronics.

Homestuck fan by any chance?

R47 is an smd capacitor. I dont know what it is rated at though. I can tell you that it says 223 on it. You can also find these off small electronics.
So long as the size of the smd you replace it with is about the same you should be fine with anything. just try and get to as close to the original size, but not smaller.

I went to a website called console5.com and it says r47 is a fixed resistor. Can I only buy them online ?

Right it's a resistor not capacitor sorry. Still an smd 223

If you could find that particular one online it would only be in bulk really. I don't know of any place that would sell a singular one. Places like ebay would be the easiest to get it from. But again it's all in bulk.

Thank you, you are awesome.

You know what's messed up.........I took out those parts(r47 & c57) from the good game gear and it still worked. Then I put those parts in the other game gear I'm trying to fix and it didn't work. It must be when I removed those caps that fix the dim video, I ended up pulling both contacts out completely. Then I used a blade to scratch away the board so I could reveal the flat metal circuit the contacts were attached too. Oh well, it's all over now. That was my first experience soldering. A good thing is that fixed the other game gear and one of my turbo expresses.

As much as I love Sega, I'm glad the damage was on your Game Gear and not the TurboExpress.
