I was just at the Opcode Games site and was wondering if anyone has a Super Game Module. If so, what do you think of it?

Is it still available for purchase?

There's a listing of SGM games in the "Projects" section, but they all have "TBA" written next to them.

?

Try to keep track on this thread on Atari Age.

OpCode was also talking about a Colecovision 2 project, which I assume would incorporate the Super Game Module.

He did say there would be a second production run, and took orders on it. I don't know if he shipped them, but he hasn't been heard from on AA in a few months. He's gone incognito a few times before though, only to return.

From what I've heard, almost all of the "new" games for it are just MSX ports hacked to be made playable on the ColecoVision with SGM installed. It made me think twice about even getting it. Like why not just import a Japanese MSX or emulate that system instead?

Well that accounts for probably 80% of the Colecovision homebrew library (MSX/SG-1000 ports) these days. It's a niche collector base who enjoy the CV, and those games. The SGM is for CV fans, so if you're not a die hard I don't think it's a good fit. Personally I just play the NES or SMS versions, but those early ones have their nostalgia.

Kinda off topic but saw on on ebay selling for $649! Good luck with that!

I seriously considered it, but in-fighting a couple of years ago and questions over long-term support of it with homebrew software cast a bit too much doubt over the project. Glad it's came to fruition in some capacity though.

Hopefully the homebrews take off, OpCode returns, and his Colecovision 2 project I've heard about happens. I think that was supposed to be a FPGA Colecovision with an integrated Super Game Module.

Is Donkey Kong Arcade out yet? That looked to be the biggest attraction since besides a bit of flicker, it was planned to be arcade perfect.

This website keeps track of it all well.

DK Arcade is due out I assume early 2014, as are the second run of SGM's. Again, I assume.

Yeah but I'd rather see actual original brand new games programmed from the ground up like the Atari 2600 homebrew community has. Not just a copy of something that's exactly the same on some other system and already available. There's nothing original about it. Nothing new to experience.

Give it time. The 2600 has more people working on games. You do see plenty of ports to it, so I imagine in time you'll see new games. Like the 7800. Got plenty of ports or clones of arcade games, but now some really good entirely new games are being made for it.
