View Full Version : December 2013 Finds

I found quite a bit today, might as well start a new thread for December.

First went to Salvation Army.
iRecord Personal Media Recorder (PMR-100) sealed new for $5.99. There were a few of these but other people got to them first, I got the last one.
Jazz DV153 camcorder loose for $1.99
Flip U2120 camcorder loose for $1.99

Then next door to Value Village, saw a loose Zelda Ocarina of Time gold cart for $12.99 but passed on it. Passed on an N64 console with expansion pak for $24.99, missing the cover to the expansion pak. Did buy a couple items, I'll only bother mentioning the most interesting one.
-Philips SRU8010 remote for $2.99, bagged with some other remote. 20% off today.

Went back to Salvation Army before heading home, found some more stuff just put out. Most discs are a bit scratched.
PS1
-Metal Gear Solid VR Missions -$2.99
PS2
-Street Fighter Anniversary Collection -$2.99
-Silent Hill 2 -$2.99
-Silent Hill 3 -$2.99
-Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty -$2.99
-Soul Reaver 2 -$2.99
Gamecube
Resident Evil Zero(missing instructions) -$2.99
Legend of Zelda Windwaker -$2.99

And a large art portfolio case for $1.99. I had a coupon for $5 off if a minimum of $25 was spent, that's why I bought Metal Gear Solid 2, Soul Reaver 2, and the art portfolio. Happy about Silent Hill 2 and 3 as I only had Silent Hill 1 and 4, of course I would have been happier if the discs were perfect but they're not bad.

Zone of the Enders HD Collection (PS3)
The Last Story (Wii)
Pandora's Tower (Wii) no manual

$5 each:

Lost Odyssey (360)

$2 each:
X-Men The Last Stand (DVD)
The A-Team (DVD)
Fulltime Killer (DVD)

Hoo boy, do I have a lot to catch up on.
About a month ago, I got to go to Youmacon as part of the Sonic Paradox Panel. Natrually, I had to nab some games there.

Youmacon 2013 finds:

Paperboy (Genesis) - $3 - Cart and Box

Adventure Island II - Lost in Paradise (GB) -$5 - Cart Only

Ghosts N Goblins (GB/C) - $13 - Cart Only (I can't get it to work, though - trying to fix it in the tech help thread)

Monokuma Plush: $20 - SUPER into Danganronpa recently. I know it's overpriced as all hell, but I had to have one.

I finally got a bank account to call my own, so I linked 'er up to paypal and made a test purchase to make sure it'd work for the future.

Gameboy games lot - $18

Including:

Gradius Interstellar Assault
Kirby Tilt N Tumble
Kingdom Crusade
Tamagotchi
Tetris DX
Tetris
Las Vegas Cool Hand
Bases Loaded
Action Play Football
NFL Club 96

listing said "11 games" twice but only listed/showed 10. Still more than worth it, though, since Gradius IE (Nemesis II) has listings at about what I paid for the whole thing. Plus, always wanted to try tilt n' tumble and motion control makes it weird to emulate. I already have a copy of tetris and have no interest in the poker and sports games so they're all resale lot fodder.

Non-game stuff:

Motown Video CD compatible with the Saturn and Phillips CDI - $0.50 (NEW)

GunXSword Anime OST - $0.50 (NEW) (the reason I bought the previous item was to get this as part of a 2-for-$1 FYE deal)

Here's to more finds in the future!

I found a 3 button Philips CD-I gamepad at the local Goodwill. It appears to be unused (the controller cord appears to still have the factory twist tie on it) and complete in box. Can any one confirm if the controller comes loose in the box? Or if it had some kind of packaging to keep it from rattling around? Because it doesn't have any inside box packaging. But it does have the manual.

Edit: oh yeah, payed 3 bucks for it.

My finds from the last few weeks...

http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/7264/lnev.jpg

From Goodwill
Philips CD-I Game Pad $3 - I had thought this might be complete in box but it turns out there was a molded plastic packaging that I'm missing. I'd hate to think I left it somewhere on that Goodwill toy shelf... But I believe the controller is unused, because the cable has the factory twist tie still on it. The box is a bit warped but otherwise in pretty good shape. According to E-bay this thing can resell for more then a couple bucks. I'll probably sell it because I have no use for it.
King's Quest V (PC) $2 - Somebody must have unloaded their adventure game collection, because there were a whole bunch of 90s Sierra games at the Goodwill. I snapped up all the ones I could find for my personal Adventure Game collection. King's Quest is dirt cheap, so I'm glad it was only 2 bucks instead of Goodwill's usual $3 standard. Which is kind of weird...
Police Quest Collection (PC) $4 - Another set of games I've never had the pleasure of trying. Will probably never play SWAT.
Quest for Glory Collection (PC) $3 - This goes for something like 15 to 20 on Ebay. So, good price.
Shivers Two: Harvest of Souls (PC) $3 - Mid 90s first person FMV adventure game... Could be good for a laugh.

From GameXchange
Knights of Nightmare (DS) $10 - My town just got a GameXchange, which is rad. Its nice to have a dedicated retro game store, and GameXchange appears to be one of the good ones. I picked this up primarily because its an Atlus RPG (though not developed by Atlus). Apparently goes for 15 to 25 online, so I think I got a nice deal, especially on a blind buy.

From FYE
Tetsujin 28 Vol.1 - 5 (DVD) $25 - Anime. Directed by one of my favorite anime directors. I've always wanted to get my hands on this series. But it was always a bit too expensive. FYE is a bit of a strange bird. They're the last place you can still find old anime DVDs. This is mostly because they over price them like crazy (all of these DVDs have $30 price tags on them). They had all 5 volumes on sale for $5 each. More amazing they had all 5 volumes. Which was REALLY surprising.

Not trying to disappoint, but I'm pretty sure there are 6 volumes to this series so you're still missing one.

Nabbed a pretty good condition loose cart of Streets of Rage 3 for $15 Buy it Now on eBay. It appears to be the third-lowest a copy's gone for on ebay in the past 3 months (one copy went for $10ish and another for $14.50) but seeing as the value seems to have settled into the $22-25 range I'm okay with that price. I'm pretty sure the seller didn't care much about what it was worth, anyway; he has a loose cart of NBA jam up for $15 and a loose Road Rash II for $20 :D

That makes sense, Geneon was always about the 6 and 7 DVD volumes. Not the hardest gap to fill in either. Thanks though! Now I won't be surprised when I get to the end and its still going.

I can remember seeing someone selling a SoR2 cart with a SoR3 case for like $3, someone scribbled out the 3 and wrote II. (hope it was on the outside!)

$16 ebay lot - Super Mario All Stars (SNES), Mario 3 (NES), TMNT 1 (NES), Kid Chameleon (Genesis), Frogger (Genesis) and an N64 gameshark. The listing had "AS IS" in the title, so I sent a few PMs to check the condition of the carts' contacts and his knowledge of the games; he identified the gameshark as a genesis title and actually took screenshots of all the games' contacts (which look decently clean to me, nothing a q-tip and some alcohol won't fix) so there shouldn't be any problems with them. If anything doesn't work right after cleaning, I'll just sell it as nonworking and get a bit o' cash back.

Yet again some of them I could net a bit of profit for. Might be worth it as I still need a new GPU.
Batman I'd redeemed a Gamestop points coupon toward though.

$5 each:
WWE All Stars (PS3) sealed
007 Blood Stone (360) sealed
Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions (PS3) sealed

$10 each:
Fist of the North Star Ken's Rage 2 (360)
Tomb Raider Trilogy (PS3) sealed
Batman Arkham City GOTY (PS3)

This isn't so much of a find as a good deal. I went to my local Wal-Mart today having decided to finally break down and buy the Mario & Luigi Nintendo 3DS bundle. When I got to the store, I saw that they had some of the Zelda: Link Between Worlds bundles. When I got to the register, they tried to charge me $219 for it and I pointed out that they had a sign up for $199. The guy told me that they had never taken the sign down from last month and had the customer service manager come over to ring it up for me at $199. The real reason that I picked that one out is that my grandson already has the Mario & Luigi game so I can just borrow it if I want.

RROD 360..(return-for ebay now)
This was a repair I did,it was sold by a flea market friend vendor to a lady he knows who has a child with ADHD.
I tested this system for a week .playing it and just letting it run..
The Kid played it for 4 days constantly .The system relaxed the kid it’s all he wanted to do..it RROD,then worked again for another two days and would come on and off for a day or less..Finally as the kids mom says it’s Dead...
Vendor offers a return-refund or exchange(card given to call or email) so I replaced it with another that I repaired : So far it must be ok...
I don’t like selling these systems after repair but I do the repairs when requested .sometimes they last sometimes they don’t ..

A few additions to my Game Gear collection...

Game Gear Lot (eBay) - $15

Coca Cola Kid (Import) - wanted a copy of this for a while. Pretty much a coca cola themed Sonic game, to the extent that it's made by the same team that made the GG sonic games, on the GG sonic engine.

Streets of Rage 2 - Recently really got into the Streets of Rage series. The GG port of the sequel seems surprisingly competent.

Beavis and Butthead (European Version?) - This game is awful and I know it, but it's somewhat hard to come by so I don't mind adding a copy to my collection.

X-men - crappy game, common game. Easily the runt of the lot.

And to top off the night, got some NAMCO goodness off of amazon:

Burning Force (Genesis) Boxed: $8.50
Marvel Land (Genesis) Boxed: $11

There's something special about NAMCO genesis games, really. You can tell NAMCO put a lot of heart into their genny titles.

With this, all I really are the two splatterhouses, which I don't expect to get anytime soon if they stay as ridiculously expensive as they are, but the time will come someday. There is that crappy moto-racing game under the same NAMCO label, but...eh, I'll pretend that one doesn't exist.

Slow... so painfully slow... the finds... they just aren't appearing for me this December...

But finally! A find! No wait, TWO finds!

Target:
Kid Icarus (3DS) - clearance for $3.06 (bought all 4 copies)
Tetris Axis 3DS - clearance for $9.98 - passed

Movie Trading Co:
WWF Rage in the Cage - complete and nice - $2.99

Again, not much but at least it's something!

The cart I picked up in this lot is a standard blackish-grey GG cart that you can usually find for about $15-20 on ebay (overpriced, but the only way to get it for the $5ish it's worth is through amazon.co.jp), but for those with deep pockets or a ridiculous amount of luck, there WAS a limited edition Red cartridge for the game that came with a limited edition coca-cola game gear:

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_-ghTEG3UZEc/SpyxsIskY5I/AAAAAAAAALU/vQ7fcrgc_t4/s400/coke4.jpg

The only one on ebay right now is around $450, but I can't imagine too many people shelling that out for it.

Apparently the game itself is based on Coke's 90s mascot for japan, cokey. It's over-the-top and ridiculous in every way, which is right up my alley.

Brain Boy - Used for hacking Pokemon games I guess. You can also back up GB saves which is kind of cool and helpful for when I replace Pokemon batteries for people.

Monkey Island Madness - Monkey Island 1 & 2 on CD with Redbook soundtrack, score!

Star Wars Arcade - But it was so cheap!

Madden 95 - Will be used for a repro probably

Microsoft Gaming Mouse - Has adjustable DPI buttons and stuff too. My current mouse is pretty damn old so this will be a nice upgrade. I had to do some major cleaning on it, ewwwww.

Joe Montana Sports Talk Football 93 - A CIB Genesis game for a couple bucks is a no brainer.

And here I thought Pepsiman was the weirdest soft drink mascot to come out of Japan.

So here's my finds from last week:

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/finds-2013-12-11_zpsca63a6d6.jpg
Hulk Hogan cartoon VHS tape - Asking price was two for a dollar but I couldn't choose a second tape so I gave the guy a buck. This is damn near mint.
Oldboy Special Edition - REGION 3 - A legitimate Korean release! I found a bunch of Korean DVDs at a booth and I grabbed this one because of the remake nobody liked. It's R3 so I can't watch it... but it's not encoded or anything so I can probably rip it to my hard drive. The case is weird, I think it's made out of leather... $3.
Donnie Darko Director's Cut - From the same booth as Oldboy. $3.

And today:
http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j238/foxhack/DP/finds-2013-12-16_zps96b7133b.jpg
BULLETFIGHTER - Some dumb direct to video movie - $1
Viva Piñata (PC) SPANISH EDITION - $1. This has the box, manual and disc art in Spanish, but it's got an American UPC and ESRB rating. I had no idea Microsoft released games in Spanish in the USA. Hope I can beat it before GFWL gets the mercy kill next year.

GB/C lot - $11

Zelda Link's Awakening DX, Game and Watch Gallery 2, Austin Powers Dr. Evil GBC, Some WWE game by LJN and Vegas Stakes. Zelda DX looks great and would be an easy resell for $18ish, couldn't say no.

Gamegeargasm lot - $25

Why gamegeargasm? THIS LOT IS FULL OF RARES I'VE WANTED FOR A LONG TIME AND GAMES TO RESELL.

2 Non-Working GGs (might frankenstein 'em to fix up the one I mostly use, since the 2 button requires you to press down REALLY hard to get it to register)

Games:

Spiderman Return of the Sinister Six
Sonic Triple Trouble
2 copies of The Lion King
Popils (REALLY love this game, glad to finally nab a cart)
NINE COPIES OF SONIC 2
Super Space Invaders
Super Off Road
Robocop Vs. The Terminator (GG port's pretty rare, already have a CiB copy, helloooo resale)
Batman Returns
Desert Strike
Choplifter III
Chakan

NBA Jam

All of the carts look in good shape and are stated to work. This christmas is going to be extra-merry :D

I found a Master System II (which, here in Brazil, is a model one with Alex Kidd in Miracle World built in) yesterday at a thrift store. The console and the power supply, no joysticks, and - here's where things get interesting - 14 games, most of them CIB (only two of them lack the manual). The list: Aztec Adventure, Alien 3, Indinana Jones and the Last Crusade, Bart vs. The World, Back to the Future II, Spy vs. Spy, Chuck Rock, two Monica`s gang games (they're localized versions of Wonder Boy games, I figure), f-16 Fighter, Danan, Captain Silver, WrelsteMania Steel Cage and The Lucky Dime Caper Starring Donald Duck. I'll post some pics when I find a camera. Total price: 100 brazilian reais - which is a VERY good price considering our market.

Too bad it had no pads...but I bought a pair of genesis counterfeit pads for 15 bucks, so I can play it until I get home (I'm at my moms, on vacation).

Went to a local gamestore today. Picked up a few necessities and some games:

SNES controller - $10 - Just a normal SNES controller. Mine don't work and they go for way too much on ebay.
Fill-a-bag-with-cases - $2 - Needed a shiton more gamegear cases due to the GG lot I got yesterday. 16 Game Gear cases, a few GBA cases, a DS case, a few GB cases and a few SNES dust protectors.
Marko's Magic Football - $7 - This game has shot up ridiculously in price recently. Glad to see some places didn't notice yet. I think it's the UK version so it may be worth less, but it's still pretty hard to come by.
Tiny Toons Buster Busts Loose - $5 - Common game, but one I grew up with on SNES at a decent price.

I traded my friend a Mint Basic N64 System Box with Inserts for that box.(his request)
...This box has no inserts but it has the purple controller, also filled with NES sleeves and a old Gameboy=all to sell..
Why did I do the trade, well I have several Basic N64 System Boxes and a few of these special set boxes that I sell when I get the time to sell them..

He wanted a basic box and I wanted the variant...he threw in the extras..

THIS WAS FREE:

My sister came up to visit with her husband,it’s been years since they’ve been here..Husbands a fellow mini motorcycle enthusiast and gamer so that makes the tour/talk of my apt a good one..

My sister surprises me with this..
Atari 2600 and games..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v21/Chris1/2012%20PICTURE%20ALBUM/2013%20PICTURE%20ALBUM/SAD001_zpsf99df16b.jpg (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Chris1/media/2012%20PICTURE%20ALBUM/2013%20PICTURE%20ALBUM/SAD001_zpsf99df16b.jpg.html)

This stuff was thrown in a trash-dump area down South Jersey.
As I understand it,the towns people bring bulk type items to a dump area,my sister spots this stuff but as she explained it was tossed all about..there were other gaming items but smashed and torn up,seems someone just sat there tearing game manuals up and smashing systems and games..(SAD!!!!!)
She rounded up the Atari stuff that she could dig out for me that looks missed from the smashing..

I’m going to sell the stuff and throw her a few bucks as she’s expecting her first child.
I currently have an Atari Jr set up that I may just bulk sell with this stuff.

its kinda worthless but it always suprises the heck out of people when I show them my set.

i'll post my pics soon, not exactly finds but the usual Christmas stuffs, gotta hit up some thrifts first though

I have the 1 antenna version and I can’t connect to my router..my router is to far..
Does anyone know if these two antenna versions are Much better then the 1 antenna versions..

If I am remembering correctly, the original single antenna was a N series design and the 2 antenna was a G series design. So if you have a matching G series router you will see improved performance from it. That being said, it wasn't a night/day type difference and the increase in range will be nominal depending on a host of other factors.

Pretty sure its the other way around.

Single antenna = A/B/G
Dual antenna = A/B/G/N (newer model)

The dual antenna version should work at least a little better, but it also depends on how good of a signal the router outputs.

Salvation Army finds...

Super Monkey Ball (Gamecube) Complete + Working - $4

Quest for Glory V (PC) Complete in Case + Working I think? (It doesn't like 64-bit windows but 99% of 90s software doesn't like 64-bit windows) - $1

Quest for Glory was supposed to be $2 but the cash register gave it a 50% discount even the person working it didn't understand. We both rolled with it, though.

Probably my last find for the year 2013 but I was in a Mom N' Pop game store on Saturday and noticed that they re-arranged their set up some. It's still dark as hell in there but I digress. Anyway, they moved all of their PS2 games into a case and I spied a small row that caught my eye. They had all of the Romance of the Three Kingdom games (VII - XI or 7-11 for all you non Roman numeral reading peeps). I already had 7 & 8 so I looked at the discs for 9-11 and they were super minty. They were a little pricey but less than what I would have paid for them on eBay. I assume these all came from the same collection as there were other Koei games in the display (I wanted but didn't have the funds for :().

Rot3K IX ran me $13. X and XI were $30ea. I didn't mind paying those prices on X and XI because the discs were MINT. Even after getting out of the dark store I looked at them under bright light and could find nary a scratch on them. :)

I also snagged a Genesis game CIB, Crystal's Pony Tale for my Godchild. My cousin was with me and said exactly what I thought when I opted to buy it. He tells me "they're gonna think you're a Brony for buying that". @_@

Earlier in the day I swung by a Gamestop and found a minty Smash Court Tennis 3 on XBOX 360 for $2.

Last find of the year today, and boy howdy is it a doozy.

Saw it pop up on ebay this morning and immediately bought it.

Fully functional Blue SEGA Game Gear with DSi LED Mod and Phantom 2040 game - $30

I couldn't care less about Phantom 2040, even though the console ones are great the GG game is a piece of shit.

On the other hand...

The game gear I use has really taken a beating over the years. Even when I got it, the 2 button was a little numbed, and I had to push down on it super hard, and over time stuff got under the screen and killed a few pixels. It still played fine, but I've been looking for a better condition working GG for a while now.

I did NOT expect to score something this great for the price a normal working gray/black GG goes for. To start with, the blue sports model is WAY harder to find than the normal ones without even factoring in the mod. The DSi mod is one of the few that doesn't make it look like it has big ol' floodlights on the sides and all of the caps are new. On top of that, it gets about 8-10 hours of battery life so I might actually wanna use batteries for it now.

This was right in my price range and it'll make playing GG that much more enjoyable.

Happy New Gear, everyone! Here's hoping you all find (or make) a mod to your favorite system even better than this.
