What are people's thoughts on ridiculously tough level bosses?

Personally, I find that they tend to kill the flow of a game (and the narrative too -- if there is a narrative).

I'm thinking that after the 30th time a person tries to defeat a level boss, the game should just give them the option to skip it (with some kind of penalty, be it a lack of bonus points or not receiving the associated achievement).

Some of us just want to get on with the game. @_@

If I just want to get on with the game, I just lower the difficulty. If that is not an option then sadly the game will go in the "will get back to it" section of the collection.

I see what you are saying and kind of agree. But even though I have to put down that game for a while. I feel as if not beating a boss would take more than an acheivement away.

I.E. in Diablo 3. If i had the option to skip a boss, that in and of itself would put a hole in the story.

It might work with some games but I dont see myself jumping on that bandwagon.

As long as you don't get kicked back to the start of the level NES style, I'm cool with tough bosses. The sense of accomplishment for defeating them is palpable.

I totally agree. In modern games there just isn't that much super hard bosses like in the old days that you have to master to beat. If you can just try again and again eventually you will beeat it.
