PS2 controller help

So I got The Nightmare Before Christmas game for the PS2. Upon turning the PS2 on, a screen pops up telling me to put a DualShock 2 controller in controller port 1. I already have a controller in port 1. I don't know if it's a DualShock 2 one or not, I've never heard of a PS2 game wanting a certain kind of controller in order for it to get to even the title screen. I tested the other game I got and it works OK with the controller I had in there, so I don't know what the problem is with the stupid game. Do I have to get a DualShock 2 controller for it to be happy? The back of the box does not mention this. It just says "Analog Control", which is what I have in controller port 1.

It doesn't have to be Sony brand, just one the console thinks is DualShock 2. Some games demand a PS2 era controller even if no known use of analog face buttons.
