This is a different location then where it has been held in the past.
Last year it was in a large cement warehouse looking place on the
bottom floor of a hotel. This looks much nicer (though it won't
matter when the lights are off.)

I used all my Vacation time up so I'm headed there Friday night and get on the BYOC waiting list.. Usually by noon Saturday several people leave.

There are 2000 spots for computers.. over 10,000 will show up without a PC.

Quakecon is a completely free event.. In fact the sponsors who have booths throw free stuff at you.. I walked off with 4 T-Shirts, 2 VIA chipset keychains, a LinkSys yoyo, and the ATI booth had all the free coffee, Bawls energy drinks, and soda you could drink.

pretty much any software running an Id 3D engine can be played.

It's not going to be all 2000 people in one free-for-all game tho, right? What's the max number of players that can play together at once (as in versus eachother)?

limited by game..
Most don't go over 16-32.. 64 I think is the max for some games.. most DM never goes over 16.

Nothing like a little puzzle gaming to kill some time.

Last year Nvidia had a really craapy showing at Quakecon while ATI had a kick ass booth..
What happened? ATI became the Video card to have and Nvidia made mistakes all year.
This year they have seen the error in their ways.. Don't mess with the Quakecon Karma.

Something that a lot of people have been asking about is the specifications of the machines which will be used in the tournaments. Well, my buddy Jeff from AMD just handed me that information which I am happy to share with you now:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 (engineering sample)
Motherboard: NVIDIA TOP SECRET nForce Motherboard Technology
Video: NVIDIA GeForce FX5900 Ultra GPU-based Leadtek Winfast A350 Ultra
RAM: 512MB DDR 3200
Hard Drive: Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM
Sounds like these are sweet machines!

If you are here in Dallas, you will definately want to swing by the NVIDIA booth. Once there, you can fill out a short survey and pick up a $100 rebate on their smoking fast GeForce FX 5900 cards. But that's not all. They'll hand you a slick Doom 3 T-shirt. And then, twice a day, the NVIDIA staff will secretly roam the halls looking for people wearing their shirts. Each time they will select a lucky shirt-wearer who will receive a 5900 hundred card of there own!
