SNES: (Japanese) King of Demons. Beautiful and ugly all at once. Dismissed for a small NES sized hero sprite when it was released, it's a preview of the direction Castlevania would turn after Symphony of the Night, on the GBA. The smaller scale allows more much more variety and imagination to the gameplay, within very limited cart space. Will you throw away your gun, and become a demon? Who will die so that you may live?
Megadrive: (Japanese and European) Alien Soldier. Dismissed as a disappointing follow-up to Gunstar Heroes, it actually plays like Punch-Out, but with heavy firepower. Unfortunately, what's considered an awesome fighting engine in one genre is considered just a boss rush in another. It remains one of a kind.
GBA (Japanese, European, North American) Astroboy. Pushing the GBA to its 2d limits, this game would have been welcome on any system. It's the rare game that actually has love for the source material, made by a team talented enough to justify their fan fiction. For me, at least, their shameless enthusiasm was a welcome infection...
