I got a fat ps3 60gb model (cecha01). It suffered from the Blinking Red Light problem. I recently fixed it.

The fan get really loud after about 15 mins of being in use (playing game or just on the dashboard)

How do I fix this? Is the fan failing or is the motherboard stuck in super fan mode?

It sounds like the system is still running hot. That is a problem those ps3's suffered from. I had 1 and mine would aways get loud for no reason. How did you fix the system did you re-thermal paste the solder cracks?

I took a heat gun to the board that re-thermo pasted it. The air the fan blows out is barely warm. I don't think it's getting hot in it.

Its what the 60 gg does. They run loud. It has to stay on full blown to keep it cool. That is why a lot of people wanted the slims. I actually still prefer the 60gb. Make sure the system is in a area where it can breathe and not tucked in a shelf that has sides it needs to be able to breathe.

The only reason I got a 60gb model is cuz of the backward compatibility.

Would an external fan help?

My system just shut off and blackout my basement. I might need a new power supply. That might be the problem.

From what I have herd from many people is that those external fans make things worse. Jakthebomb on youtube said that once. You reballed it you said yourself I think it is fine they run hot. Mine always was loud too. Its up to you on trying it but I would not do it personally.

I've done two heatgun reflows on 60gb ps3's and can tell you that after 3 months of regular use they both died again. I even had a fan mod on one to have the fans always on full. On the other I would have the same issue as where the fans would just kick into high gear. I believe the temp regulator fails honestly.
If you really want the backwards compatibility it's better to sping the 100$ for a reballing.

Sure I like the backward compatibility but i got a ps2 and a ps3 slim so I can hold off on the reballing.
