Really fun game that I had not played since it was first released. I didn't care for the levels where you have to wander around and plant bombs(thank goodness for the interwebz). But other than that it's a really solid game. I dig the whole bit where you can choose your characters for the mission and swap between them.

6. Deponia

I agree with the major complaints you see in Steam reviews. The humor is just not there, the characters are completely unlikable and the story does little to make me give the slightest damn as to the fate of Deponia. I've read accounts from German players (as the game was initially released in Germany, then translated for other parts of the world) that many of these issues are due to the game having a German sense of humor and storytelling in mind, with little thought being put into the localization. I do disagree with the major complaints about the music. I felt it was lively and generally appropriate.

13. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine - GG

Having recently beaten the Sega Master System version, it felt only natural to just play it in its Game Gear form while it was still natural to me. It's a bit tougher to react on the smaller screen but it's still not too hard.

Finally went back to play Final the other day. I had not played it since it was first released, which was already 10 years ago. I distinctly remember buying this game and playing this with a buddy of mine right after it was released, it just doesn't seem like it was THAT long ago.

Anyways, I enjoyed the game a lot. It was a pretty stiff challenge(for me) to finish it on normal difficulty. Thank the maker for unlimited continues. It was nice having so many options for your ships and there is a good amount of statistics that are tallied in the game, which is always a huge plus for me. Music was pretty cool too.

Ah, Shining Force. This series is one of my favorites on the Genesis and it was a joy to replay. I wish the game had some side quests like the sequel does, but despite the game's linearity, it was still a lot of fun to replay. It was short but pretty sweet and well worth playing for fans of strategy RPGs.

2013 was not a gaming year for me. 2014, on the other hand, seems quite promising!

1 - Alien Soldier (GEN)
Amazing, AMAZING game! Beat it on "supereasy" mode; will train a little more before going for a "superhard" run.

2 - Gradius II (Famicom/NES)
One of my favorites for the system (and I'm not really into shmups); I have it on a pirated 72 pin cart (brazilian gaming market was even crazier back then), so I can play it easily on my NES. Used the Konami code (for now).

8. Vigilante (SMS) 1/31
9. Arkanoid: Doh It Again (SNES) 2/15

I went to the local arcade (Crab Towne USA) to beat the arcade cab of Kung-Fu Master....but failed horribly. I never made it past the third floor before giving up. Anyhow while there I stumbled upon an Arkanoid machine, and found a new obsession. I picked up a copy of Arkanoid (SNES) from one of the game trading sites and absolutely loved the first 30 or so (out of 99) levels. After that the game gets a little repetitive. Regardless, it's a fun version of the game and the password feature keeps you from playing the same boards over and over again. Even better, though, is the two player cooperative play. That was a blast.

Papers, Please -- PC (Steam)

Fun and somewhat addicting puzzle/simulation game. Given the tone and atmosphere of the plot, it shouldn't be nearly as fun as it actually is. I enjoyed detaining people at the border and sending them off to the gulag. It has a few quirks and flaws that keep me from calling it great, but I would say that it is very good. And the endless puzzle mode offers some nice replayability.

3. NY Nyankies (Famicom)
NY Nyankies, as you probably already know, is the japanese version of Rockin' Kats. This game is not particularly hard or long, but the playing mechanics are varied and fun. You can do A LOT once you really get the hang of it; mastering the controls will be crucial to tackle the hidden levels after the game's ending.

The special weapons and items you can buy and the mini games I've been playing it on and off for some good 15 years know, and still have one hell of a time when I fire it up. Beaten fully, hidden levels and everything.

I had the urge to bash some digital faces, so who better to turn to than Final Fight? It's not my first time to finish the game, but the simple fun of Final Fight is something that I honestly never really tire of. I did this run-through with Haggar on Normal and made it all the way through without using a continue. The best part, I literally had a single sliver of health left on my last life when I finished the final boss. That made it all the more thrilling and memorable for me. What makes it even better is that I was recording the level(testing out the Elgato) and now I'll have that moment forever. It's weird to think that some day I'll be able to show my grandkids a gaming moment that happened decades before...

3. NY Nyankies (Famicom)

4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III - The Manhattan Project (NES)
This is my favorite TMNT game for the system. There's enemies a plenty, a good selection of stages, nice graphics and spot-on controls. The new toss and special moves make the gameplay less repetitive and much more fun.

I think this game is harder than its 16bit follow ups (and that's a good thing!); the bosses' patterns are less predictable and their attacks are harder to avoid. The music is way cooler, too...I'd really like to hear these songs on a more powerful system.

Well, I did Final Fight 2, so why not Final Fight 3? I really enjoy the game and the variety it throws into the mix. That being said, things are quite as smooth or precise as the previous two games, but that's really not that big an issue. The last boss is definitely harder than in FF2.

I didn't really like the tiny map navigation box as it would have been useful to see more of where you are going, but the gameplay was addictive and the fight scenes showed that the Sega Master System could have more detailed art than any NES RPG at the time.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, thank the maker for unlimited continues. It's not a bad game at all, but certainly not one of the best. The most fun part is doing the roll move that reflects enemy shots back at them. Not all of the music really grabbed me, but there were some really cool tunes in the game.

15. Sonic Triple Trouble - SMS [Hack]
16. Double Dragon - Genesis
17. The Great Waldo Search - Genesis

Only actually released for the Game Gear, a member of the Sonic hacking community ported Sonic Triple Trouble to Sega Master System by fixing the color palette and expanding the screen resolution. People have gone on to make reproduction cartridges, boxes and manuals based on this hack with text and art taken from the Game Gear version of the game. Being able to see more of the area around you makes this version easier to play.

The Genesis version of Double Dragon is decent, but I would still say the Sega Master System version has better play control. The enemies in the Genesis version are also a bit more aggressive than usual.

The Genesis version of The Great Waldo Search is pretty close to the SNES version, but I believe it comes short in terms of sound and graphics. It is still as easy as ever.

I haven't touched this series since the first one, but I really enjoyed this game. I loved the open world that they had created and I had a great time just exploring the islands and finding all the treasure and other collectables. The story was alright and the game play was good, but the exploration aspect is what really hooked me. I may come back to this one in the future, because it is certainly the most I've enjoyed a modern AAA title in a long time.

Anyhow, I needed a break from BM.... and figured BreakThru sounded appropriately right. With unlimited continues and a generous amount of check points, beating the game doesn't take too much, but I enjoyed it. In fact, I really enjoyed it -- it's a simple arcade style game with tight controls. Oh well, back to Blaster Master.

Completed "The Last Land" in Kuru Kuru Kururin on Game Boy Advance yesterday. Completion being all 38 Adventure stages (11 worlds/lands plus the 5 training stages) and the 11 Challenge levels as perfects. Master rank times are cleared (meaning beating the fastest computer times) in Challenge with about less than 15 top times remaining in Adventure.

K3 is part time attack/racing game, part game of "Operation", and part general puzzle. It's a unique formula and unlike anything else I've ever played. I initially got a CIB copy from the UK some years ago seeing it was one of the few Europe/Japan only GBA games with appeal. That stemmed from the fact it's developed by an interesting company like Eighting/8ing who're behind some great arcade shooting games (Battle Bakraid, Dimahoo, etc.) - this game actually uses samples from Bakraid as it has the same composer (Atsuhiro Motoyama) and the music is pretty good as a result. Striving to get the fastest times and clearing a stage without hitting a wall can really make for a long experience although I will admit it can be frustrating at times. This is not the fault of the controls as they're very precise (as you'd expect from an arcade developer like 8ing) so it's all on the player which is ultimately fair. There are initially 10 worlds in Adventure, 3 stages each and 10 levels with 5 stages each in Challenge. Upon completing both perfect, you are granted "The Last Land" and level 11 respectively. Incidently, the The Last Land cannot be accessed in Practice mode which breaks down each stage into chunks to practice and find a good route through which is quite helpful. There's also the Make-Up section comprised of different colour schemes and styles for the Helirin, the pseudo-helicopter piloted by Kururin the bird. The Adventure story sees you finding 10 birds throughout the 10 lands which are found by simply touching the Helirin on them as they appear on a stage.

Like many in North America I heard of this game through Super Smash Bros Melee as the Helirin (or Heririn) is one of the 280+ trophies you acquire. I think this game would've done well over here and it's too bad it never did see release. It most likely is a reason why the sequels (Kururin Paradise GBA, and Kururin Squash GCN) both never got out of Japan. Not that english is needed to enjoy any of these games, they're all quite playable otherwise.

I've finished every FE released in the US, but sometimes I'm just not in the mood for a game like this. After a few false starts, FE: Awakening finally clicked with me. I can never say enough good things about this series, and Awakening really holds up the traditions well while adding some twists here and there. It's definitely the most bold entry(content-wise) that I've played. The animated cutscenes were really well-done, but I honestly don't feel the series needs them. I'm of the mind that you either animate all of your cutscenes or you don't; no mixing and matching. But I don't want to sound like I'm just complaining, it really is an awesome game and another great addition to the 3DS library. And as usual, the music was fantastic.

20. Mr. Nutz - Mega Drive (Europe)

I finally completed the game without using any codes. It took practice to get the mechanics and enemy patterns down, but I had a great time playing a platformer I wasn't 100% an expert at yet. I would rank this game a 4 out of 5 when it comes to how good a platformer could be. It's above mediocre or boring, but not flawless like Sonic the Hedgehog or Super Mario World. It doesn't have any bad play control to lose points on and if you're careful, cheap deaths are minimal to totally avoidable. Decent 2D graphics for 1994 and catchy music.

Completed Bioshock Infinite for Windows a couple days ago on normal difficulty. I don't have much to say here since I played this in chunks over a year. I'm not much of a fan of the 2 weapon Halo format, but given there are more than 9-10 weapons in the game it's a fair compromise. I would've liked to customize which 9 or so you can hold instead. Nonetheless, I stuck with the carbine and sniper rifle for most of the game and found they didn't upgrade much - they were better but I would've liked to be even more improved. Vigors are similar, I stuck with Shock Jockey, Devil's Kiss, Possesion, and Bucking Bronco. It was mostly SJ and pardon one or two secrets there was little use for the others. Again not much room to upgrade and once I had I still had a lot of money leftover. I suppose the story is well crafted yet beyond that it doesn't feel greatly evolved over Bioshock 1. I ended the game with nearly full lock-picks and over 10,000 dollars. 1999 mode is likely a better challenge but I don't feel compelled to go through again when the greatest challenge were Handymen of which there were only a 1/2 dozen or so through the whole game at most. This is a far cry from the Big Daddy's being everywhere in Rapture.

I don't know when I'll try the Burial at Sea episodes but they at one point held appeal in going back to Rapture.

Yeah I know its been awhile. I have very little time to game these days since i took up a second job and such but beat this one today due to having a snow day from both jobs (probably will again tomorrow)

Very interesting take on the whole Post Apocalypse scenario thats been popular in games for the past 5 or so years. This entry done by ID Software which we all know is famous for Wolfenstien series Doom series and Quake series.

The graphics were alright. Didn't really take from the game but I felt behind in times when compared to similar games coming out in 2011.
The sound was good although I found a few odd voice recordings on characters and sometimes the voice acting seemed half assed. Except....... for John Goodman which I am wondering how the hell they got him on board and for such a small role.

The design of the whole game felt copied. But not from just 1 game. seemed like a mix of various games thrown together to make this. It had a lil bit of its classic doom and quake games mixed in with Fallout and mixed in with Borderlands. Not that its really a bad thing but just felt copied. Whatever

I came across 1 part that was glitched which was the distillery side mission the graphics seemed to glitch all over the place. Once again didn't hold back from the game play was just a lil distracting.

I did however find it odd half way through there is a huge boss fight but the end there isn't...... I won't say what your fighting but don't expect another big guy like you do half way.

21. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Genesis

This was the first one on one fighting game I ever played, when my old neighbor rented it. I have just beaten every enemy on every difficulty setting (there are 8) with every character (there are 6 plus 2 Zords for fighting the large enemies). You could say I've become a master of this game with that much put into it! And you would have thought it was a shallow fighting game with only two attack buttons. Nope, the speed at which you need to mash buttons and the angles you need to move the d-pad while performing moves makes it much deeper than expected. The rangers look similar but have very different special moves which can even get in the way of regular moves, causing you the need to fight differently with certain ones.

How would someone beat a game like Sega Rally Championship would beating the game be just completing all three courses in championship mode which is not that easy as it is or would beating the game be coming in first place and unlocking the fourth track in the game or a fighting game like Street Fighter Alpha would beating arcade mode with every character constitute beating the game or just beating arcade mode with once character considered beating the game

It's really up to you to define your own goals when it comes down to that. Some genres you don't like as much might make you want to set lower goals. Myself I am simply trying to maximize my experience before I tell myself a game is worth purchasing for my collection when I already have an Everdrive. I only want to buy what I really liked. Beating everything means it glued me to it till I was done, equals a good enough game for me.

I've been playing Teen Titans off and on for the past year and a half with my son. It's a fun button mashing beat'em up that managed to retain the look, feel, and humor of the original cartoon show. The ending was also very clever, the type of ending you would expect from a Teen Titans episode..err, I mean video game.

This game is a welcome return to form for the handheld Zeldas. It took some adjusting, but I made it through Phantom Hourglass. Spirit Tracks, however, is the only Zelda game that I've never finished. The touch controls on PH and ST were just a bad idea from the start. But anyways. There really isn't much that is wrong with A Link Between Worlds. Just about everything clicks and works with the game. The thing that really sticks out is how the Zelda formula was changed up in this one. It was refreshing to get a big chunk of the items early in the game and choose which dungeons you want to tackle, rather than having to go through a certain order. Killer game! 8-)

This was my first time playing this one. It's kind of like Zelda in a few ways, except it focuses on recruiting animal friends that each give you a special ability rather than going after different items/weapons.

I've finally completed this Genesis version after already mastering both NES versions. On this run I only lost one life and it was during the climb in the final tower! This is a fun game where you look for items to use to get through areas that have things blocking your way. You have to be smart about bringing certain items with you to be as time efficient as possible as you can only carry three at a time.

This is an interesting shmup. I think it hits that sweet spot of a stiff, but manageable difficulty level. Personally, I was impressed with the graphics on the game. Slowdown doesn't really happen until you get quite a few enemies on screen. The GAM(pods that rotate around your ship) is really cool and what sets this game apart. I really like how when it's activated it acts as a shield, or it can be flung like a boomerang into enemies, or expanded outward and back as an attack...and all the while you have to manage the charge of the GAM. The weapon powerup system is well done also. Whenever you blast the object to unleash the powerup, it will shuffle every few seconds to a different powerup, essentially letting you choose your favorite. The only bad thing is that I found myself getting suddenly bombarded by powerful enemies in the few seconds of waiting sometimes. So in a way it's like they intentionally put in some risk/reward element on waiting around for the right powerup. The music is kind of crappy. It constantly has that song by 2 Unlimited playing...the "are you ready for this?" one. I did 90s dance tunes, but it seems like this is on constant loop the first few levels and it doesn't sound all that great. It really tests your nerves after a while, but when I was into the game I didn't notice as much.

Yay Final Fantasy IV's original US release has finally been cleared on the actual system with no cheats, frameskip or savestates. It was a lot easier than the first three Final Fantasy games for NES & Famicom, although I do know this US version was based on Japan's Easy Type version of the game.

Fun little game that I picked up last week. Cool music and some nice graphics in some places, specifically the cityscape level. Challenging, but not overly so once you figure out the weapons and weapon formations.

Never thought I'd beat this one. Strangely enough, I haven't poured tons of time into it like I did Macross, but when I played it tonight it suddenly didn't feel that hard any more. I got a sense after my first game that I'd come close. Second game I was fairly close and could smell victory. Third time I finally completed it. It's a solid shmup that I personally enjoy. Not much slowdown in the game, which is impressive for such an early SNES game. Perhaps it's because the graphics aren't the most ambitious, but they have a nice look to them and get the job done. Cool tunes as well. Props to it being co-op as well.

15. Chaos on Deponia

Better than the first one. The characters aren't really any more likable this time around, but it was more challenging and had a fairly interesting story. Music was great.

Fun, unique shmup on the Genesis. It's pretty easy, but that didn't get in the way of my enjoying the experience at all. I loved the steampunk/airship stuff in the game; it really makes it stand out from the rest of the pack. At times it's a very beautiful game. I was surprised at the amount of slowdown in the game....I guess this was before Sega's marketing team discovered blast processing.

Seems identical to the Playstation version I am used to. This time I even completed Planet X and got the funny secret ending.

Since I planned on doing all of these in one or two sittings, I decided to group them all together. I enjoyed the story, but the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. 90% of it is annoying quick time events, made harder by the games being glitchy, jittery messes. Overall, I'm disappointed, TellTale can and has done better.

I've had this game sitting on the shelf for months and decided to finally give it a go. Took awhile to fully figure out how to play the game, but it was worth it. Fun game. I've heard the other versions are crap, but I might check them out to see how they compare.

20. Little Ninjas

Fun little game. Reminds me a lot of early PS2 sandbox games. Lots of objects to find, a decent combat system, selectively twitchy camera. Worth a play, I think.

Today I finally beat Dynamite Headdy on the Mega Drive. It's always been one of my favorite games on the system, but I never finished it due to how bad I was at it. Years later I finally managed to beat it and now that I've played through the entire game I think I like it even more. Easily my favorite game by Treasure!

Complete list of everything I've beaten this year:

Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror
Donkey Kong 64
Pilotwings 64
Mega Man X
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Mega Man 1
Quake
Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition
Earthworm Jim
Rocket: Robot on Wheels
Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
Final Fantasy IV

This was a really fun game that I went into not knowing too much about. I liked the storyline to the game and the setting alot. The graphics are cool, with some large, detailed sprites. Having the 3 ninjas to choose from, each with their own distinct moves and feel, added a lot to the experience.
