What Game/s are you Playing? Daily check :)2014 (GAMEPLAY)

2014 EDITION..

Not sure what game I'm Starting the year with.

Something Very OLDSCHOOL

I just got some boxed Sega Genesis games (Sonic 3, Quackshot and Paperboy) and a Sega CD (Sonic CD) today from the Salvation Army. I'm pretty sure I'll be trying out Quackshot for my first 2014 game as I've never played that one ever and I'm a bit excited to do so.

I'm playing a slightly tweaked version of Final Fantasy II for GBA. It's part of a fan-made "Mod of Balance," which was mostly aimed at tweaking Final Fantasy I, but the guy made a few changes to II as well.

Not much new gaming-wise for me. I'm still playing Breath of Fire on my Game Boy Advance SP sporadically. I just got the Time Key and Nina disappeared. Hopefully I'll have this game licked pretty soon.

Still messing around with Battle Clash on Super Nintendo a little, if only because I've been too lazy to pull out the sequel so far.

Just turned on my SNES to play some Donkey Kong Country 2, at Krockhead Klamber! Also working on Equinox on the side, fresh into the 6th level: Afralona.

Current Objectives for Jan 2014
Broken Age Act 1 (PC) - I should have this done by tomorrow. Pretty good so far, but kind of short. Even for only half a game.
Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS)
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father (PC)
Bravely Default Demo (3DS) - Not sure I'm digging this as much as I'd hoped.
Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS) - trolololol

Games I'll putter along with, but don't plan to complete
Mega Man ZX (DS) - I was actually puttering around with this for a good week, thinking I could squeeze it in. But it got balls hard all of a sudden, and I really need to focus on my actual objectives. I want to come back to it though.
Skyrim (PC)
Just Cause 2 (PC) - Starting to wear kind of thin...
Rogue Legacy (PC)
FTL - Faster Than Light (PC)

Multiplayer games I'll be playing
Super Street Fighter 2 Arcade Edition (PC)
King of Fighters XIII (PC)
DOTA 2 (PC)

Realistic Back-Log (stuff I will probably play next)
XCOM Enemy Unknown (PC)
I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (PC)
Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars (PC)
Paper Mario StickerStar (3DS)
Rune Factory 4 (3DS)
Radiant Historia (DS)

Beat Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Technically I'm only 50% complete because I haven't beaten 'Hero Mode' yet, but that's for another year. Surprisingly I did 100% complete my Normal playthrough, I wasn't actually planning to, but I got to the last dungeon and decided to just get it done. Honestly this game's collectibles aren't the hardest to find. I'd actually gotten nearly every Heart Piece that was out in the world already without any sort of guide. I only had to look up the location of 2. The others were all skill based, the two Ruby Rushes, Octoball, and The Hotfoot. Let me tell you, getting 100 in Octoball was a major pain in the asshole. Its completely dependent on the number of birds that randomly spawn. Sometimes only 1 shows up! The Hotfoot race was pretty annoying too, but not nearly as much. It was made a bit worse due to the placement of the Dash Boots R button just being awkward on the 3DSXL.

Overall I thought the game was pretty great! The gameplay was solid, and every dungeon did something creative & different. Great use of 3D, I never turned it off (in fact turning it off was very distracting after a while, the game didn't look right). Some of the bosses weren't very memorable, and toward the end they started to repeat (how many times did you have to fight that snake thing with the tail weakspot? I know he's iconic from LttP, but come on!) but usually they involved some cleaver item usage to beat them. As a good Zelda game always should.

If I have one complaint, and perhaps its not really a complaint, its that the game is too familiar. Its layout is almost identical to Link to the Past to the point of kind of being a bit dull to explore. Lorule makes it a bit more interesting, because its not exactly the Dark World. But again, its rather close. It might have been more interesting if Lorule was actually mirrored compared to Hyrule. But perhaps that would have been a navigation nightmare with little actual benefit.

I enjoyed the story too, though it doesn't really develop much between the beginning, first arrival in Lorule, and the ending. I totally saw Hilda being the mastermind coming from a mile away. But at least I didn't see Ravio being Lorule's Link so that I was kind of a cool twist.

So yeah. Good game. Glad I played it. But now its time to finish some other stuff. First SMT, then Project X Zone. Then I can move on to something else.

I found a translated ROM-hack of the Wizardry trilogy on SNES. Playing through the first game now. The old-world RPG mechanics take some getting used to, but now I've got the hang of it and I'm starting to enjoy the game.

I've barely touched games since my last post, but I did play a little yesterday. I tried out Spice World on PlayStation, haha, since that was a gag gift I got for Christmas, and then, since my SuperScope was still lying around, I beat Metal Combat on Super Nintendo. Something weird happened during the final fight, though. The SuperScope was interpreting my pressing of the Fire button as me pushing the Cursor button? I couldn't do anything but lose life until Mike died. Then I ended up turning off the SuperScope and the system and restarting to set things right. But I used a bomb on the final boss, which took out the chick, so with both her and Mike gone, I got the worst ending. I'll probably try to get some better endings over the next couple days because I'm heading back home on Friday and will no longer have access to my SuperScope for a long while.

I'm still playing Pokemon X. Intentionally going slow since I won't have much gaming budget this year.

why do people always post PSP, Wii, DS, PS3 etc here?

is this not the CLASSIC gaming forum? there is already a MODERN gaming forum, those games would be best discussed there. there should be at least one forum for discussing REAL classic games away from the rankness of modern gaming

anyhoo I'm working on Final Fantasy VI and Star Ocean for Super NES and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade on PC.
can't work out how to open that door in the pirate cave in Star Ocean though, seems like nothing I can do!

I've been playing only GTA 5, just wanted to finish it and now I'm delving back into the retro systems again, where my heart truely lies.

I'm in the middle of Sonic The Hedgehog 3/Sonic and Knuckles. I fiiiinally bought 3 after all these years, and it's killer. I've played all the other Genesis Sonics to death, and Sonic CD, although S&K I just can't get far in at all, its soo brutal.

Anyone know exactly how these 2 games are even connected? I know they connect literally, but does S&K pick up where 3 leaves off? Do u beat 3 and then play S&K? I should know this, but I don't, sadly. I have them sticking up stacked on each other outta my model 1 genesis, and Idk why. I've had this same system since I was 6, also, I should mention. Yea. See if a PS2 or a 360 will last that long before it craps out. Forget it.

I really don't know what I'm gonna play next, I have bad game ADD where I'll pick something up and then move on to something else before finishing it. I recently finished Shadow of the Colossus in the middle of GTA 5, which was an amazing game. The whole game is very mysterious where not too much plot-wise happens until the very end, and then the whole thing just gets nuts. It's a masterpiece. Anybody thinking about checking this one out who hasn't, absolute MUST play. Just for the experience. It's so well-designed.

After Oot tho I wanna play some serious SNES and play some of the games I haven't gotten to playing yet like Bubsy, Magical Quest, Timon & Pumba, Ren & Stimpy, etc.

The other 5 endings to Catherine -360
Jetgrind Radio -Dreamcast
Jak 1-3 -PS2
TMNT -NES
Space Shuttle Project -NES (This games so stupid, but I can't help but show it to everyone who comes over)
Double Dragon -SMS

Also wanna play more Wii games, and collect more Wii games since they're so criminally cheap right now

May 20th? I haven't tried this, either. I whipped thru this game pretty quick, cuz my Mario Kart skills haven't really diminished since the 64, but I never tried the online parts either. Not really an online gamer, that much.

I played some Pilotwings 64 last nite. What a quirky, fun little game.

For some reason I'm just stuck on some stupid mission where u hafta get a certain amount of points, and the game is sooo anal about points its ridiculous. U gotta take a picture of a flame coming out of a smokestack, while hang-gliding, then land on a target. Couldnt be simpler. But everything has to happen sooo perfect, it's insane. U hafta have the most exact, perfect photo of this thing, and land perfectly on the center of the target, or u won't have enough points. I tried this so many times I finally had to give up. And it's toward the begiining of the game, too! It's most likely that I just suck hardcore at this game. Who knows.

Arkanoid_Katamari

I bought both the Pilotwings games recently on Amazon, they were about $5 each with shipping, so why not? This was after I saw Pilotwings 64 in a retro game shop for $20. The original SNES game even came with the box and manual. Boxed SNES game for less then $5? Score.

The SNES Pilotwings may actually be easier then the 64 one, tho. Which is strange cuz usually N64 games r way easier. At least that's bee my experience.

I did recently also get Lego Racers for N64, been playing that, I owned this as a kid, it's a fun kart game, and maybe the very first Lego game. But for some reason I remember it being way easier back then.

I go through fits and starts, I have to be in the right mood to play my Genesis/SNES/NES games - the old school arcade-style challenge. Very different than playing CS:GO, lol...anyway, if I want a few minutes of game time, lately I tend to pop in a beat-'em-up, and last night it was NES Double Dragon III. This one seems to be hated by many, or most, but I like it. It's hard as hell, and cheap, what with no continues, and the controls are muddy at best, but it's interesting - the different moves, the boss that becomes a 2nd character, etc.

Still haven't been playing anything seriously (and I really need to get back into Breath of Fire and finish that off finally), but I've got stacks of games to try out that I acquired over the last few months. Since more are for PSP than any other system, I decided to start with those, so I briefly played some Ragnarok Tactics, Class of Heroes 2, and Elminage Original. They all seem like they could be pretty fun, but they're WAY too big of commitments for me to get into right now. I really need to cut back on buying games that take all eternity to play and beat, haha.

Jet Grind Radio - Dreamcast.

In the middle of this, cuz I got bad game ADD and can't just focus on one game. Super fun game, pretty challenging at times, absolutely brings me back to junior high with all the late 90s style crap, the baggy pants, graffiti, rollerblades, break-beat music, quasi raver clothes, wearing ur beanie in 90 degree weather and ur sunglasses at night. But the style of this games awesome, the graphics are fanastic. I'm gonna hafta pick up Jet Set Radio Future now.

...And an original Xbox if it's not compatible with the 360. Ugh, I hate how big that thing is.. It is the Dreamcast 2 though.

I'm still trying out and cataloging my recent acquisitions. On PS2, I played a little Castle Shikigami 2 and Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2. Had fun with both, although I haven't played through the first Digital Devil Saga yet, so it'll probably be a long time before I get to the sequel. If memory serves, I think I have every PS2 MegaTen now. Actually, I haven't beaten any yet, haha.

I had forgotten about a stack of GameCube (and a couple Wii) games that my fiance's father randomly found (literally, he didn't buy them) and gave us, so I got started on cleaning up and trying those. Mostly licensed junk (probably why they were just discarded), but a few are half-decent. I very briefly played 1080: Avalanche, American Chopper 2, Cars, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Ice Age 2, LEGO Star Wars II, Mark Davis Pro Bass Challenge, TMNT, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3.

I bought the recently released "Last Dream" on Steam. It's a bit of an 'untrendy' pickup because it's an RPG made through some iteration of RPG Maker, but I'm giving it a try because it appears to have some real depth to it. I've put a few hours in already and I can see some hits and misses, but I'll keep playing to see what all it has to offer.

Played a tiny bit of Cabela's North American Adventures and NFL Training Camp on Wii, Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?: Game Time for DS, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys for N64, and Air Fortress and Street Cop for NES. Phew, just a few more games left to clean and test!

Hallelujah, I've finally finished cleaning games. That was starting to get real tiresome after a while, haha. I still have a couple more to test out (and a few more games I bought new I need to try), but I don't feel like digging out the systems for them just yet. I did try out Warsong on Genesis, though. I found the menus a little confusing, I should probably look up the manual or a guide before I play it for real (my copy has the case but no manual unfortunately). It's not my first time playing a Langrisser game, but I'm always impressed by the interesting spin on the strategy RPG genre that the series offers. It's still pretty unique to this day. I finally tracked down a copy of Warsong because I figured I should play the first game in English and really learn the system well before I tackle playing through any of the later games in Japanese. I definitely want to invest some serious time into Der Langrisser for the PC-FX some day.

Is anybody going to stop me from getting a Connect Four here? :P Anyway, I'm trying to get back into the gaming groove. I had a few issues with my N64 (including an issue with trying to get it open), but I finally got the thing opened up and cleaned. Unfortunately, it didn't solve a little issue with my power button, but it's no biggie, as long as it doesn't get worse. Now that my N64 is shiny and clean, I decided to sink some time into it, after barely touching it for a year or more. First I played some Wetrix just to test things out. Always a fun little puzzler to return to from time to time. But what I decided to seriously play is The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. I've never beaten the game, but I've liked the story and atmosphere, how alive the world feels, and the unique gameplay concepts for many years. I figured it was about time I got around to it, especially now that I'm all caught up on the Zelda series in terms of games released before and including Ocarina of Time (not counting those dopey CD-i games). I haven't done a lot just yet, I just cleared the prologue sequence (I really like how it's filled with precisely enough tasks that, assuming the player doesn't know exactly what to do and immediately gets to it, they'll probably take you right until the night of the last day, and without any way to save or any clue what to do about the falling moon, it gets really tense; very cool way to start a game), and then I gathered some of the key stuff you can get at the beginning like the notebook and bomb bag and such. Next time I play I'll probably start heading out to Woodfall.

Oh, I also played a tiny bit of Legend of the River King (GBC version) on my Game Boy Advance SP just because I wanted to check out my old file. And that reminds me, I really, really need to push myself to play and finish off Breath of Fire.

Restarting my insanity run of Mass Effect 2. Apparently the PS3 version has a known bug that doesn't allow a majority of your things outside of your base level transfer over to the new game+. Internet suggested just starting a cold, non-new game+ run, so all the enemies will scale to your level.

I recently got a famicom adapter for my NES because of a multicart I got, and since then I got 4 Famicom games in the mail. I took down Twinbee 3 so far, most of Wai Wai World 2, and I also have Rampart and Dragon Buster here too. In the mail now/shortly will be Armadillo, Family Jockey, and famiclones of Crisis Force and Moon Crystal. That's my thing now, it feels so fresh compared to anything else I'm really enjoying it. Even though it's the NES, it's unlike much of what we received so it's new to me and enjoyable so I'm scouting more stuff.

I went the famiclone route on those 2 because they're expensive with legit carts, but the clones are so old they're chipped and not glop top junk and those are overseas so it'll be a couple weeks on them. I imagine Saturday or Monday the horse racing game and the platformer will arrive which is great.

I'd love to get more but I dont trust the combination of asian markets and ebay weirdos so I buy US only on there so it's tricky finding more games I want to play at a good price but it'll keep my buying in check at least.

I just got the ability to make those creepy statues of Link in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask on Nintendo 64, so I'm close to starting the fourth dungeon. I completed the spider house on the beach which was a major pain (took forever for me to figure out how to get the skulltulas out of the chandelier, and once I did, I learned that I had to clear the house on the first day to get the real reward, ugh), but getting that bigger money bag allowed me to clear a couple more quests in town. I think I'm down to 6 people left to help in my notebook (one I've yet to meet), 6 masks to get, and 8 more hearts (one will come from the fourth dungeon, but how there are theoretically 28 more pieces of heart hidden in this world is beyond me).

While I can understand you concern regarding certain Asian countries where bootleg selling is prevalent, there's basically zero reason to worry about buying Japanese games from Japanese sellers. I mean, heck, there are probably more bootleg games here in the US than there are in Japan. Sticking with US sellers is going to severely limit your options and probably cause you to pay more.

...took forever for me to figure out how to get the skulltulas out of the chandelier...

Why did you remind me of that?
What did I ever do to you?
>_< I remember running around that room looking for those fuckers. I could hear them, but couldn't see them. Then I noticed the sound got louder when I stood on the table....then I looked up OH GOD WHY.

Currently playing Chrono Cross and I'm loving it. I personally think it examines the world and humanity in such an interesting way.... I'm currently 40 hours in and still on the 1st disc! I can't wait until the second one. ^_^

I'm also playing Shin Megami Tensei IV. Leveling up my demons and trying to fight Medusa. ._. I really enjoy it. Especially since it's portable.

Currently playing through Final Fantasy V (PS1 port). I just finished Final Fantasy IV for the first time last friday, so I've moved onto V now, planning to finish all the SNES Final Fantasies.

V is pretty good so far, kind of surprised it's as ignored as it is. I like the job system it has as it adds a nice extra bit of customization to the game. So far the story's a bit cliched by Final Fantasy standards, though it's not taking itself too seriously and has more of a comedic focus which I think works to it's benefit in this case.

I've been getting more into SNES-era JRPGs recently. When I'm finished with the SNES Final Fantasy games I'm thinking of finally giving Chrono Trigger a shot. May be a little burned out on JRPGs by then, though.

Was gifted a copy of Final Fantasy 14 a few days ago and it's been serving as a fun alternative to WoW. The lag is killing me, though.

5 is my fave just cause of the cool job class combos. SShot + Sword spells + two swords = w00t. I normally have this char as a mime, so all 4 chars are mimes with time magic. Most mimes I'll do Attack spell + quick, Attack spell + Attack spell, Attack Spell + Attack spell each turn, but right before th fighter goes, I may have the last spell be quick again. It'll fail, but allows the "fighter" mime to mimic it and use quick for 16 attacks.

And abuse the mix command! it's got the strongest attack spell, plus half elixirs, they are very cheap ways of recovering ALL your magic. And they also have "spells" that raise resistances, double your hit points (! Over powered much?!) and raise your level by 10.

Anyways playing Whomp 'em on nes right now.
