Summarize how your gaming 2013 year went in a sentence, followed by a brief description if you'd like. Also, feel free to share what you WOULD LIKE 2014 to be, gaming-wise.

i.e. 2013 was the year I finally bought a Sega Dreamcast. 2014 will be the year I finally play/beat Shenmue.

I'll start. 2013 was definitely the year of the RPG.

I made a HUGE dent into my backlog, beating 12 of them. I averaged one a month, and spent roughly 200 hours alone on the five Super Famicom Dragon Quest games (I+II, III, V, VI). It was a crazy RPG binge year. And I probably still have at least a dozen more I want to beat.

But 2014 will be the year of variety for me. I didn't play a lot of other genres last year because of my RPG binge. I kinda miss the various action genres out there. So, I definitely won't be beating 12 RPGs again this year. One of my goals is to finally FINALLY play ActRaiser :)

My wish for 2014: i wish Ubisoft would fix the bugged 'learn a song' mode in Rocksmith 2014. Huge annoyance.

For me, the word is "fulfillment". I added some pieces to my collection I've been after for years like a disk drive and controller for my Tandy Coco's, a boxed copy of Mario Bros. XE for the Atari 8-bit computers, a couple harder to find CIB copies of Atari 7800 games like Planet Smashers and Scrapyard Dog, a Vaus controller for NES Arkanoids, a Sega Power Base Converter and a nice Tandy Coco 3 with 512k Trios upgrade from Cloud9tech.

Its been a good year, hope 2014 is even better.

Edit - I reread the thread and noticed it was "sentence" not "word". Oh well, still works for me :)

2013 bought a lot more retro games for my many retro consoles; 2014 I plan to play a fair few of them!

The year I started actively collecting.

I have been a game collector for years but it was something I mostly did passively. I never got rid of or traded in games when I was done playing them and I did still buy a retro game from time to time. Well early January last year I made the commitment of actively going out and hunting for games.

I hope my 2014 will be more of the same but this year I might focus more on targeting specific games but I still prefer finding a gem in the wild that was completely off your radar.

In a word "sparse". I got some classic gaming in here and there but I was just really busy with other things last year. I acted in three plays which swallowed up time and got more involved behind the scenes with the theater company I'm with.

This next year might be similar so I'm thinking of slimming my collection way, way down.

I do have a modded Xbox that is loaded with games and these days I'm not minding that it's not the "real deal".

2013 started with me loosing 6 months of my life to playing Skyrim (thanks Joe!) all day, every day.....
2 month break to go back to work, then 4 months lost to Guild Wars 2 (thanks April, my coworker) all day, every day....

2014 looks like a long and fulfilling year of developing my 2nd and 3rd characters in GW2, and I should probably say hi to my wife and kids every so often.

2013: A new beginning. I went a long period without any video gaming (at all) after selling my entire collection in 2009 for financial reasons (epic business fail).

2014: Rebuilding the legacy. I hope to slowly re-buy all the games I actually enjoy, rather than collect everything in sight. Not a bad goal, I'm sure you'd agree.

Oh, and it's good to be back on DP!

2013: Disappointment

After several months of unemployment, I had to sell off a chunk of my collection to keep the bills paid, which was something I really wish I didn't have to do. Thankfully I was able to hold on to a number of harder to find/expensive titles, which should help once things finally start turning around.

2014: Hope

Looking foward to starting a new job soon and being able to start building my collection back up. I'm going to try to focus a little more on just a handful of systems, but there is just so much out there that I've never have a chance to play (Master System, TG16, etc.) that I'd love to get my hands on and some games that I'd like to reacquire for my collection. 2014 is looking to be a promising year, and here's hoping for the best, not only for myself, but for all my fellow games here on DP.

2013: Playstation One

Got some good titles from the swapmeet, enjoying many games I only previously played on demo discs in their day. Star Ocean The Second Story was a highlight, I had no expectations and this one really impressed me. Uh, now about finding disc 2..

2014: 3DS

Well, I got a 2DS, but hey, that'll do. Now I just need games! I've got Pokemerrnss X and Project X Zone, but already my wishlist is huuuuge. Much larger than my budget is, any way. E Shop is also tempting me with retro goodness (I only ever owned 3 Gameboy games).
