View Full Version : What console in your collection gets the least love

DK1105

For me it has to be my NES. It seems that the NES just sit off to the side and collects dust while all of my other consoles get way more play time. My Odyssey 2 surprisingly gets more play time. The only thing that comes close is my game gear and that is simply because I don't generally gravitate towards handhelds.

Blasphemy! For me its the Sega CD or the Sega 32X. My PS2 doesn't get too much love either.

The last time I replied in a thread like this I said it was my N64. Sadly, my N64 still sits neglected.

Technically it's not a console but the power base converter which is, in effect, a sega master system. Don't get me wrong, I like the system but it is the collection that I have the least games for - 7 currently - with no real interest in getting more.

In fact I'm thinking of selling off my Xbox stuff

I would have to say my PSP--I'm not really into handhelds, but I bought it on clearance in November of 2012, along with the two God of War games. I finished those, and it has been sitting in its box ever since. As for consoles that I actually have connected, I would say it's a toss-up between the N64 and Wii.

I don't think I've touched my NES in over a year by now.....

Before most of you turn pale, it's because the majority of my 8-bit gaming is done on the Famicom + FDS muahaha

Sega Master System Ive been saying to myself to play this since I have quite a bit of games, but I never play it. I actally played Tennis on the CDi for over an hour, more than what Ive played for theSMS.

After skimming back to what I have at this rate, it would be the N64. It's just more of a pain to use it as it's setup on my sharp nes tv so I think about it less compared to other stuff on my normal tv and I rarely if ever buy anything for it. I currently have the NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, PS3 and WiiU. The Wii has been demoted to back room netflix box but the games get a little (slightly) more use than N64 though it deserves last place. Before the last of the skim off it would have been the Master System which is why I parted with it as it just sat.

Anyone who's looking to shed original Xbox games, shoot me a message. I'd love to possibly buy or trade to further my Xbox collection.

Anyway, for me the systems that I neglect collecting for the most are:

N64 (mostly because I already own everything that's good)
NGPC (mostly because I can never find games locally)
PS1 (mostly because I can't find any good games locally)

The stuff I collect the MOST for are (in case anyone's looking to get rid of anything!)

NES/Famicom
Original Xbox

I've been giving my PS1 a serious workout. Mostly because I skipped it when it was new, and I sort of see it as SNES 2.0 it terms of library and presentation. I personally think it's aged wonderfully, and has a very unique graphical appearance that makes it endearing.

SNES and Gamecube

Don't really care for the music and many of the graphical styles on the SNES. And on the Gamecube I hate the startup-logo jingle, and the controllers make it feel like a toy.

2D looks great still on the PS1 for 3D that depends on the game.Games such as mega man legends&crash bandicoot, still hold up well in the visual department. When the PS1 is out though i all ways seem to go back to castlevaina sotn and mgs.I was a early adopter of the console after it's launch so i did play it to death, now not so much.

I never really got around to exploring much of the Dreamcast library, but that will change this year in August.

I used to love playing Dreamcast when I first got it and when I was collecting random games I never heard of, but most of the years I've owned it the Dreamcast has gotten little use. Only when I had the urge to play Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi, or the ports of the Tony Hawk style games.

8-bit gaming in general falls flat for me because for me it feels like an awkward time between the experimental phase of what is home gaming/arcade golden age and when gaming matured a bit more with the 16-bit era. I still enjoy it but never really caught me as particularly interesting. I do need to really sit down and invest some more time though.

I think for me it's the Nintendo Wii.

I bought the system solely to play LoZ Skyward Sword, played through the game and loved it, and then pretty much put the Wii to the side in favor of other, older consoles. I am pretty much not interested at all in "connectivity" or playing/being online whatsoever in relation to video games, and never even connected the Wii to the internet once, not even for Netflix.

Right after I went through Skyward Sword, i bought some other titles that seemed tantalizing at first (Tatsunoko vs Capcom, King Of Fighters Collection, Metal Slug Anthology, House O The Dead 2 & 3 Return, Kirby's Epic Yarn and Mario Galaxy) but even with the "classic pro controller" i never really got that into it. T vs Capcom is pretty colorful and over-the-top, played that a few times, played through Epic Yarn once with an ex-GF, and Mario Galaxy is literally still unopened and factory sealed. The other titles are pretty much all classics that have been ported. Even though they're all ports/collections of ports they are all as good as ever, and obviously more cost-effective than getting the individual titles. i think now looking back it's kind of funny being interested in re-releases/ports/collections for a new system and not the new games being released for it, but for me that's how the Wii was.

Oh, and similarly with the 3DS, although i know there are many awesome new games coming out for it, I bought one used just to play LoZ Link Between Worlds, played through the game and immediately sold it, literally the next morning. The only other game i enjoyed during the week i owned a 3DS was the DS release Retro Game Challenge. KACHO ON!!!!

Here's my list. It's certainly changed over the past year:

Most played

PC
NES
7800 (partially because of 2600 compatibility)
Game Boy/Game Boy Color
Game Boy Advance
NGPC (just got one, but loving it already!)
SNES
Dreamcast
Saturn
Wii
Genesis
NDS
Master System
N64
GCN
PS2
Xbox
Sega CD
Game Gear
32X
NGCD (broken)

Least played

I don't have many games for the Sega CD, so that's why it's particularly low. The GCN has some play from picking back up Metroid Prime, otherwise the PS2 usually beats it. N64 used to get much more play from me, but with so many other games, it's fallen on the back-burner. Shmups keep the Saturn and Dreamcast up so high. Here lately I've been pretty busy, so handhelds have become more important to me, except the Game Gear. What a monster that thing is.

I think it's more that people are just more hooked on other systems than these. The more time you spend playing 1 system, the more the rest of them are going to collect dust.

I have a bunch I don't play since they're not 100% working (Virtual Boy) or require a lot of coaxing to work properly (NES).

Of the ones that remain, I'd say my Odyssey^2 and Saturn are the most ignored. I don't think I touched either one last year at all. But I also focused heavily on the Genesis and (to a lesser extent) 3DO last year, so that's part of the reason.

32x, I've only ever owned one game for it, and I already had a (better, IMO) version of the same game (WWF Raw) on SNES.

I did rent a few other games for it, like Knuckles Chaotix, and I think one more that I can't recall, but that's about it.

I didn't have many Lynx or GameGear games either (though at least with the GameGear I had a MasterGear so it let me play my SMS games).

Actually I'm going to change my answer - colecovision. I don't think I've played it in months. At least with the sega power base converter I'd use it when the genny gets played but even though I like the CV and it has a great library of arcade ports I just can't get into the system that much. Yes the CV has the better looking ports but I really prefer the 2600/7800/xl ports better I guess

My answer wouldn't really change much from the last time we had one of these topics, but one system I'm surprised and a little saddened I haven't played much in recent years is the NES. My love for the console hasn't waned any, but I don't know, I just haven't touched it much lately. I think the main factor is that I've been reading Nintendo Power issues cover to cover for many years now, and I'm up to the 1994 issues. I like to play along with whatever I'm reading if I happen to own the game covered, but by '94 there's so little NES coverage and what little there is is for really late, rare releases that I don't have. So instead I've just been playing a lot of SNES (but my SNES collection is like half the size of my NES collection, so that presents its own problem).

I don't have many consoles. NES, SNES, GENESIS, PS2, PS3. The PS2 hasn't been turned on in over 2 years so that's my least played. It used to be the SNES but I picked up an Everdrive and that resparked an interest in that console.

WCP
02-21-2014, 12:22 AM
I'd probably say the Nintendo 64. I've just never been that into playing the N64 with any sense of nostalgia. I don't mind playing PS1 games, which are ugly, early 3D, but for some reason the blurry 64 just irritates me.

I guess I need to get an RGB mod for my N64 or something.

Of the consoles that are working, the PS1 gets the least play. I don't know why, exactly; I like the system and have good games for it. I think it's actually time to revisit that little bastard.

My PS2 and my Dreamcast aren't working. The PS2 has laser cannon issues and I guess I'll have to replace it. Until it bailoed on me, however, I played the hell outta that thing. With the DC, it's a different story: I have owned it for over a year now and never played. First, because the seller gave me the wrong a/v cable, and didn't send me another one; whern I finally bought the cable, I found out the console is doing this (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?85689-Need-help-with-a-non-starting-Dreamcast).

My NES was having electrical issues and wouldn't work either; but, after some good two years, it somehow fixed itself and is now officialy back from the dead, and getting a LOT of play.

That's too bad. You might want to find a copy of Sega Rally 95. It's dirt cheap and one of the better racing titles of that generation.

My least played consoles are the N64 and Atari Jaguar. The Jaguar doesn't have a great library of games to play, and I find that titles like AVP are way over-rated for the system. I do like titles like Waverace, Pilotwings, The Ocarina of Time, Rogue Squadron and Mario 64 on the N64, but the rest of the library isn't on my list of must-play titles.

Gamecube, Saturn, mainly cuz I don't have much games for them. I just never focused on the Gamecube much, in terms of collecting. I play more Colecovision then Saturn, tho, and I only own 7 games for it. I don't play much SMS, only cuz I just got it afew months ago and have only 3 games right now. I also just bought a Game Gear, and 2 days later, I receive the screen flickering issue. Yippee. So this will prolly sit on the shelf until I get around to taking it to the shop. I also only own 4 games for it. The Sonics, tho, are surprisingly awesome. I wasn't sure how they'd fare in 8bit form, but they kick ass. Blast processing!

All my consoles, more or less, get pretty good circulation. But they're not like cars that hafta be started regularly. I do tend to go thru them for awhile. The one that gets the most use is the 360, since we use it for Netflix. But in terms of gaming, it all varies. Probably the 360 does get the most use in gaming, cuz theres just so many fantastic games, then it's whatever system that plays the game I wanna play. My NES gets a lot of play, since I'm always coming home with more NES games, My 2600 Jr gets used a lot, Genesis, N64 rite now, Dreamcast I play now and then, but not too much.

A system usually doesn't get played much, for me, only if I don't have much games for it. My collection is small right now, compared to others. I have about 500 games for 21 unique consoles. I'm proud of it, I got lotsa the great games for each console, but I'm not balls deep yet like some collectors. I've only been collecting hardcore for about a year.

I will play it more once I get this mess set up, I have it hooked up to my Model 1 genesis right now, it's a model 2, so it's humongous. I went out and found a cheap model 2 genesis though, cuz for the amount it woulda cost for all the cords for the model 1, it was actually cheaper to just buy a model 2 Genesis and get the cords for that one instead. Also, i can take the little extender off and actually fit it in my console cabinet. It looks like a battleship right now. Which is kinda cool, it just takes up so much space.

Odd I know. But that's the only way I can explain it.

Sorry to hear about ur depression. I've had plenty of that too. Video games actually help kinda, oddly enough. Studies have proven this too that games can help people feel less suicidal cuz they get to be a hero for awhile and save the world, or whatever.

Haven't gotten a Vita yet, I do want to, eventually. I love Little Big Planet and Katamari...(???)... Yea anyways, hlpe u feel better

My Colecovision doesn't get much love, sadly I have very few games for it, cuz they're just not that common where I hunt. And I abhore the controllers. Frogger isn't that bad with it, but I can only play it for a few mns before I gotta swap it out for an Atari joystick.

My Atari 2600 actually gets played sometimes, cuz I have a ton of 2600 games, and there's just nothin like Atari. Especially the shooters.

Sometimes I'm just in the mood for beeps and blips and flashing seizure-inducing colors and robot sex sounds and abstract, psychedelic shapes shooting at other abstract shapes. Atari's great like that. Plus I just love the raw, simple gameplay of games like Turmoil or Phoenix. To me, the 2600 just gotta unique character, that's different even from anything else from the pre NES era.
