Me and my friend were looking at this Sega CD model 2 I got.
Not sure, should the CD lock onto the spindle in the middle, or I am I supposed to just leave the CD sitting loosely on the spindle and push the lid closed?

Also, the disc isn't spinning either. Not sure where to start looking at (partly because we're not sure about the above issue).
The unit does power on and show the BIOS, but it just never finds the disc.

It just sits on the spindle, is there any obvious mechanism to lock it in place?

As for the disc the laser could be bad. Can you see it spin up through the transparent piece of plastic? If it does then it's probably the laser. If it doesn't it's probably the lid switch.

I'd suggest not monkeying around with the insides just because you can, it'll probably end up worse.

I've found that cleaning the contacts on the genesis (where it hooks into the sega cd) with a qtip and rubbing alcohol will sometimes get sega cds working better. Not sure if thats the problem here, but its easy to try.
