Do You Know This Game? Help.

For a long time I've been trying to remember one of my favorite games as a child but despite all my attempts to Google search clues, I can't find it.

It was an old video game, but I don't know what system.

You were some kind of creature that was running very very fast on a road each level. SIDESCROLLER

You had to jump over things, I THINK you were trying to save someone, and I THINK you didn't have any weapons you were simply running.

The game always had somewhat dark backgrounds, and just a general dark feel to it.

The creature you were playing with had legs but I don't think he was human, I think he had some weird stuff going on but I don't remember what. He might have been redish but I'm not sure about that either.

Any guesses? :puppydogeyes:

Console. And yes it is vague I'm sorry. My memory is so bad these days, but good questions.

After looking at examples of 16-bit vs 8-bit, I'm 70% sure it was a 16-bit game.

A thought just came to me that you might have been able to jump on top of cars and ride those along, or there were cars that could run you over, at least on some levels.

The sad part is I could be totally wrong about that, but it popped into my head just now.

I know these clues suck. My only hope is if someone who used to love that game immediately thinks of it with minimal clues.

I actually received this game as a christmas present when I was a child from a family friend, it was pretty fun.
