Ok I will give this a shot. I have been looking for this game for over ten years. I have no idea of the title.

It is for the genesis or nes, as those where the only consoles we had back then. Ok...

Its between an overhead view and behind view, so its as if the camera is 45 degrees above and behind the two players.

It starts of with two military guys and the opening level is you walking in a path/road with a brownish orange color and trees covering the left and right side of the screen. As you walk forward sooner or later you pass train tracks in the forest and (i may be wrong on this) a train crashes.

This was a co-op shoot the enemies kind of game.

If anyone has any ideas this would be awesome to find again.

Me and my brother used to rent it from our cousins video game rental shop. Even he cant remember this one.

Maybe Commando or Metal Gear on NES?

No not one of those. :\ it might have been a go forward only game. As in no left or right screen scrolling.

It was like the play style of commando meets the art style of metal gear.

Could it have been Heavy Barrel for the NES. It had a brown/orange type first level.

It doesn't match exactly, but your description reminds me of Guerrilla War for NES.

It might be heavy barrel im gonna have to check in the morning. My brother carified to get to the first poi in the game a train crashes coming in from the right of the screen and you have to leave your flipped jeep and walk north through the busted train.

No:( someday im gonna figure this out. I checked all these on vids.

Is there a way to look up scripts for that train. For some reason it is what really stands out to me.

I love "What game is this?" threads.

This one is tough, though. Driving a jeep makes me think of the Ikari Warriors games where your guys hop into various vehicles, but I think its only tanks and helicopters and I don't remember a train in those games.

Jackal on the Nes you also drive a Jeep, but again no train that I can see from youtube videos.

I'll keep thinking and doing some google searches. If DP can't eventually figure it out then no one can!

I dont think you drive the jeep. Im pretty sure it was just a flaming atmosphere piece.

This is a tough one... I think most of the obvious ones have been listed already. Just to summarize, here are all the commando buddy shooters that somewhat fit the description:

NES:
Commando
Heavy Barrel
Guerrilla War
Ikari Warriors
Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road
Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue

Genesis:
MERCS
Cal .50
Rambo III

I'm assuming the game played similar to these types of games? It shouldn't be to difficult if you options were restricted to these two systems.

It may be possible OP has elements from two different games confused. I have researched youtube videos of everything from NES Iron Tank to P.O.W. to Breakthru to Ikari Warriors and have seen not a single train crashing. The initial brown scenery with trees on both sides is present in a few though.

Maybe it was a Genesis game. Graphically I would think that view is more likely on Genesis as most NES games would be flat.

I don't think I have mixed any games up. Although that is not impossible. I do lean towards the sega because the art style seems more detailed than that of the nes.

Did you happen to have a Power Base Converter for your Genesis? Could it have been a Master System game?

oh man I remember there being a flaming flipped jeep in an NES game I played a lot, the perspective might be the same as I never pay much attention to that when I was younger. i'll have to go through them

I want to say Total Carnage but I doubt that hit the Genesis, SNES and other formats sure, it was an arcade game.

not a perfect fit, but maybe it was P.O.W for NES?

That's awesome because Guerrilla War is a great game, and its actually an affordable NES game. It runs a close 2nd behind Contra for my favorite NES shooters.

It is indeed a great game. Good example of how SNK should've handled the Ikari Warriors conversions.
