How would a person go about doing this, what type of options would one have?

I bet you could put a rider on home or renter's insurance for it.

You can definitely insure your collection, just ask your insurance company what they require from you. No doubt you'll have to extensively document everything (video/photos/inventory, etc.) and beyond that, the amount of coverage you want (and how much you want to spend on it) is largely up to you.

One more thing to consider: how extensive is your collection? If it's not humongous, you might want to skip insuring it separately from your other homeowner's insurance - do a quick cost/benefit analysis to see if it even makes sense in the first place. :)

I'm pretty sure there was a topic on this a little less than a year ago....but, I am very lazy and don't want to find the link LOL :D

I just bumped up my renters insurance from $16 G to $32 G and it's $22 a month. I explained to the guy why I was doing this and he said to document the items and keep the disc or how ever you do it off site (in a safe place). If something was to happen they will probably make you list when you bought it and how much you paid. Just ask them, it's what they do. I would just set a reasonable amount because if replacement cost is what you're looking for your could be in trouble.

Did this make any sense? @_@ Time to go home!
