so a friend of mine was telling me I should play a game called Moon Crystal, so I went looking for it and come to find out that it was a Famicom game that had a release for north America but never got released. so that's crappy.
I asked a bit more and he said he just played a translated rom but he says he hadn't heard of the game until he went to a swap and saw a black cart, like a color dreams cart, with the name on the front. he hopped online to find a rom of it instead of buying it.

now this seems odd to me, I find reproductions of the game but they use NES carts that have been gutted or reflashed and a new label slapped on the front but it sounds like he might have found a bootleg along the lines of a bit more mass production than what you would accomplish with a flasher and a bunch of old carts. has any one else seen such a version of Moon Crystal?

he seemed to think it was common among unlicensed games just asked about it in casual conversation if I had played it, that is what seems odd about it to me like hes seen a bunch of the same type of cart of this game and figured it was commonplace for most people to have played it.

I have never heard of Moon Crystal, but the first thing I thought of was the game Crystal Mines. When you mentioned it had a black case, that makes it seem more likely.

Could it be Crystal Mines?

EDIT: Never mind, misread the original post. You're probably right that his friend saw a Crystal Mines cart and downloaded the Moon Crystal ROM by mistake. Crystal Mines is a decent Boulder Dash-style game, but Moon Crystal is definitely the better of the two IIRC (haven't played it in a decade).
