PS3 Software 2.0 Update Disk

So i know nothing about the ps3 other than a few game titles it has. I found this disk marked 2.0 system software update. It was game related so i bought it at my local market.

Is this junk or something worth holding onto for someone looking to mod a console. I have read that some modders dont even update their console beyond 3.4.

Just wondering. I do plan on keeping disks like this for any costomers who may have any software problems. Basically will this disk ever serve a purpose again?

As far as I know, you can't step down once you've gone above it. Though if you pull a HDD and drop in a new one, you may be able to get back down low.

well you can step back down but its a royal pain in the ass to do so.
I could see it being useful though, the disc that is.

if I remember correctly 2.0 should still have the "install other OS" option on it still.
slap some Linux on a PS3 and code like crazy for it, if you could get all of the core components working properly a PS3 would make an awesome mining machine
