So i got an SNES system. Its powering on, and the screen turns black like its about to start a game, but nothing shows on screen. Tried several video cables and tried cleaning system contacts. Still not working. Is this system dead or am I missing something?

Are you using different games? also, I know sometimes this happens to mine but if I just tilt the game forward a tad when I power it on, the game will load up. Try it out and let us know whats going on

I tried 4 different games, and tried tilting the games several times. Still not booting any games. Bought this from a friend, for my GF, so I'm hoping not to ask my friend to give my money back. Do SNESs that power on but not boot games a commin problem?

It's not common. I've had problems with dead adapters or cables, but that's about it. Maybe one console not working right with sound effects but it still booted up. If you're using RCA cables, try an RF cable to see if it's just that one video output. Or if you have a multimeter check the voltage output on the adapter, it could be too low.

I'm thinking SNES/SFCs in general are starting to experience bad cap problems. I've recently had a SFC refuse to run certain games that it previously had no issues with, and I've been seeing a growing amount of posts on the interweb about SNES/SFCs acting wonky.

I've tried multiple av and rf cables and several different games. No luck with booting up. Cleaned the games and the pin connecter of the system too. It seems like it wants to work, but just powers up to a blank screen. Theres no static or anything on the screen either, which makes me think its not a power or av problem.
